Ah, I don't think I've ever really paid attention to the crests XD I'm a Ravenclaw because I overthink and I'm in my head a lot, also what I was sorted into on Pottermore.

Basically I found my dream job, like literally so dreamy I didn't imagine it seriously until I actually had the chance. And I've been unsatisfied with my current job for a while. So I applied to Dream Job. And I've applied to other jobs that are less dreamy but still good outcomes. But whenever I apply to something I tend to compare it to the Dream Job. I apply anyway, but since I'm not just looking for A Job, since I'm looking for something better than where I am now, I'm having to be picky. I'm not applying for things every day. So I'm not taking actions every day. Instead, I'm waiting. It's a LOT of waiting. And I'm an impatient person who has felt stagnant for a really long while. I feel stretched beyond endurance.

:mclaugh: it's a job at the only indie bookstore in my city! it's like a bookstore out of a fairytale, it's a beautiful place, with a really well-curated collection. my favourite author is barbara comyns and i had never seen her books anywhere in my country (i had been buying imported copies) until i entered this bookstore and saw an entire shelf of her books! :mclove:

there aren't a lot of indie bookstores in my country and this is the only one in my city, so i really, really want this job.

I'd love a good Indie bookstore, we do not even have a regular bookstore in my hometown.

Really... Just thought about it and realized that if i was not able to take a bus to the local cities I would be forced to order all my books online. There is no place here that sells a real variety of books. Even our local Bruna only has like three shelves and those are only the 'obligated/curated' standard books.

I need more booksellers. :}

Wow, that sounds awesome!! And it sounds very realistic too! Why would you not get it? :o
I mean, did you show them any of this passion in your application? They couldn't possibly ignore that!

I've been ordering my books online for forever because the local stores never had what I needed. And even that is getting harder and harder nowadays...
Make sure to be careful about taking the bus this and next month though. Dream. Check if it's actually going before you go out the door. The strikes are so messy this time even I can't keep up...

long story, but i'll try to keep it short.

i actually had a job offer from them. i was overjoyed. but my mom freaked out and said she didn't want me working in a 'shop' because 'anyone can enter a shop and do anything' *eyeroll*

so the bookstore owner said she'd bring me on as part of a small team running the place, instead of as a first hire. then my family wouldn't freak out about 'safety' because there are other women with me.

but when she did hire someone, she found she didn't need a team after all, because her family are pitching in. she didn't need me.

and then my family stopped freaking out too, so if i wanted to run the bookstore independently i could. but they could have stopped freaking out earlier! or not freaked out at all! i was so enraged with them.

i've told the owner that i'm dead set on working with her, so at least she knows. i feel like, since the bookstore is only a few months old, the situation can change and a spot can open up for me.

people have told me to move on and look for other jobs, and i am applying to other jobs, but my heart's not in it. so i'm keeping my fingers crossed for the bookstore offering me work with them again. i do think there's a good chance of it happening. but it's just difficult because i don't know when it might happen. all i can do is pray, and wait.

Oof, Mynah, what a story. Excuse my bluntness, but what does your family have to do with all this? It's your job, right? You should be happy in it, that's all that matters. Nothing worse than working a job you don't want! I'm just missing one thing I think, why would working in a bookstore be dangerous for women?

I do understand not hiring someone if one's family is helping out though, a young bookstore like that in expensive times as these... I'm hoping with you, Mynah. Perhaps she'll take the financial risk. I really hope you get the job you want so badly. :qh:

so my family thinks that if i'm ever alone in a shop, or anywhere outside, a guy might come in and r*pe me *eyeroll* so they really don't want me in 'lonely' places. a bookstore is naturally a quiet place, and there will be times i'm alone in it. unfortunately my mom said she wouldn't 'let' me work there if she didn't have 'assurance' that the owner wouldn't leave me alone in it ever, so i felt compelled to mention it.

the reason it made the bookstore owner uncomfortable is because my family makes it sound like my safety is HER responsibility. it's complicated by the fact that my family and her family are family friends. (so even if i had kept it from her that my family doesn't approve of me taking this job, she would have likely heard about it.)
