What exactly do you mean by that?

^Hoarding them and then selling them to other users perhaps? If not there should still be a rule about that.
Anyway, thanks for this. I love seeing user requests fulfilled. <3

I have been trying to get a old knuffel for a while tonight. The first one popped up it was the one I wanted. The Air second generation. I just love her! I clicked on her and hit adopt...this knuffel is no longer available...I understood. I wasn't fast enough. Then a few minutes later I got a second chance!!! I clicked on her...adopt popped up I clicked and typed in her 4 letter name...I lost her when I hit adopt again! Tell me how fair that is?? I am very disappointed. I wasn't even going to try for one of the older ones because I like the ones I have and I am sure that Firn will again come up with something just as pretty. I don't have a slow computer either. I even turned off the snow just in case. I do feel sorry for those that have a slower computer that really want one and can't get it. I understand you have to catch them but really???after you type in the name??? Oh well.

This is a really cool idea but I wish there was a way to buy a specific knuffel from another member. To prevent people from hoarding them to resell for a profit to others, maybe make a 2-4 knuffel limit on each kind. The stats and everything would of course reset when you took the knuffel.

I do really like that idea as well; like maybe adding a reserve to the Knuffel for a specific user when you put it up for adoption or something? Like a gift.
But that would make it unfair to other users who really like and want that Knuffel; and I don't think that Knuffel should be sold from user to user; I like the adoption process of the Knuffel.
Still; it would be neat to be able to give a Knuffel to another user. xD
Even so; I LOVE this feature! I'm really hoping to be able to grab my five absolute favorite Knuffel! =]

Firn & Starkad, thank you SOOO much for this awesome new feature. And thanks to everyone who has donated their unwanted knuffel for others to have a chance at getting.
koren wrote:The only thing I wish could be changed was the limit people could readopt. I've already seen a user that has adopted about 20 of the older ones , multiples of the same. Kinda sucks when I'm sure this is something that we all want to participate in.
while in general i do not agree with adoption limits i think in this case there is a difference- it's not the same as several hundred being in the shop with a chance to save up FP to get them. however, IF there is a limit, i believe it should only be on the amount of any one certain knuffel, not an overall daily or hourly or whatever limit. for example, if you just adopted a water gen 1, you cannot adopt another water gen 1 for a period of time (a day, a week, whatever) but you can adopt any
other older knuffel that pop up. a person has every right to adopt however many of any knuffel they want, limited or not, but it is somewhat discourteous to adopt multiple of any one older knuffel in a case where the demand is going to far outstrip the supply.

i have a really slow & crappy 7 yr old computer and i still managed to get an old knuffel. instead of trying to name her something good, i just hit a single random letter on the keyboard when the naming screen came up- after all, i can rename her later! i also missed a different knuffel i was trying for, oh well! i'm sure my chance will come up again.
i don't see how it is 'unfair' that you missed the two knuffel. you had just as much chance to get her as anyone else who was watching Knufftropolis at that time. this feature gives you a CHANCE to buy old knuffel not a
guarantee that you will.
And to whoever let go the Darkness gen 4 i was able to adopt, thank you SO much!

I don't think Firn would go for that... It would be easy for someone to go "I'll give you 100,000fp for your gen 1 Knuffel" and get one that way. This will treat Knuffel like items and Firn didn't want Knuffel to be treated like items (which is why Knuffeltropolis isn't even in the shops page).Looking at the discussion about the stage change, I sort of want that now. I decided I liked the penultimate stage for my Leilus rather than the ultimate stage I chose for him. Plus, if you make it so that the site takes food from the user when you change the state once more, then it'd be a nice food sink. That said, I realize Starkad is the one who needs to code this and Firn is the one who needs to bug Starkad to code this if it were to be implemented, and that Knuffel is often one of the biggest source of bandwidth usage on this site, so I'll understand if you say it's too much trouble to implement this.JosieQ wrote: I'm more likely to randomly open a Knuffel's page to stare at it for no reason at all, and since there's no rule about conserving bandwidth by doing absolutely nothing that's not necessary on the site, then obviously this rule about the state-change isn't because of the bandwidth it's just because...
Josie, I'm not entirely sure I understood this statement correctly, but having a page open without doing anything on it, I doubt that uses too much bandwidth. My understanding of bandwidth -- which is admittedly miniscule -- is that it would use bandwidth when you first open the page, and then the page will be on your computer and it wouldn't do anything with the site server if you don't do anything on it. Changing something, on the other hand... well, the admins once changed a user's username because they didn't capitalize one of the letters and that got the site offline for a few minutes. This is, of course, because the user had posts and all their posts now had to change author from old username to the new username, but I think it's a good indication that changing something uses more bandwidth than simply opening a page and keeping it open on your computer. Especially since most of the pictures on that page, if you've opened the page before and haven't cleared cache since then, are probably stored on your temporary folder already.I don't know, butcher... time-limiting in general sounds easier to code than making it only for a specific Knuffel. I think that would need extra information.

While I'm sure that changing a stage takes some bandwidth or anything, I doubt that it uses much. In the case Ziaheart mentioned, it crashed the site because it changed a lot. Lots of posts all over the site changed the creator's name, even if just by one letter.
If you were able to change the stage of your Knuffel, it'd only change 1 image on 1 page (plus an additional one if you have that Knuffel in your sig, but who has lvl 100s in their sig, anyway? And since it doesn't crash the site if you normally change your sig, I wonder if this would change anything.).
So, I don't think that the reason for Firn to have it this way is bandwidth. I rather think it's the issue that it'd need to be coded and starkad already has little time. And there are lots of things starkad currently needs to work on, e.g. the Battling System.
