Yeah, they only work if you manage to make them routine.
I don't even think about it anymore - I grab my planner in every class, automatically.

I haven't made it to a store yet to get a planner. But I did put it on the grocery list! (Doubles as an everything-needed-list).

So it's in the works.
I'm excited for your idea!!

What kinds of things do you normally put in it? Utility bill due dates, appointments, what all else?

I use the grocery list as a generic buying list too. Even for stuff I'm gonna buy online!

I use several different things, one is the household planner - which I share with the rest of the family. For that one we use a simple kitchen calendar, in which we write down each appointment.
Next to it I keep the menu, just to arrange meals according to those appointments - maybe we don't have time for cooking in certain days, so I need checking the calendar quite often.

Then I have the planner I use for work. This one is weekly.
I color-code it in a very simple way. Blue is for regular stuff (I use it to keep track of what I did in every class), green is for things to watch-out (deadlines) and red is for anything a bit more uncommon (and therefore more likely to be forgotten!).
