I've used the charts before, but I still manage to mess things up. I think that it is a combination of lack of time and a brain that just doesn't hold information as well as it used to...

I check obsessively Towards the end of harvest events, I tend to have open a tab of my inventory, a tab of the chart, and a tab of my plants so I can click back and forth to make sure I don't mess up.
Maybe something like that would help you?
