Oh, I actually just eat everything but that's because I like a lot of food and I rotate through it all. I guess I did consume either a curry bun or onigiri almost everyday I was there so uhhh, maybe that was my obsession in Japan. I like to think I'm fairly easy to feed :3

Most Japanese shop keepers (in chains or supermarkets especially) don't like to chit chat that much anyway. I've never had the case in my two years and a half at the very least. I do chat a lot with the staff at my dentist, but it's mostly because I told them right away that I was dead scared so they were trying to do their job and loosen me up.
Seriously though, there's none of this culture of chatting between clients and shopkeepers in Japan so don't worry.
The old people are a completely different story, they are going to chat you up even if you don't understand a single thing.

And I pick 3, as usual.

I think it's part of their professionalism and culture.

I like the way they have a money tray you can put money in, instead of just putting money on the counter. Seems cleaner.

I like that too.
And it's less noisy. And in many places they will never ever let your hand touch the coins.
Sometimes it's too much though but you stop thinking about it after a while.

We almost got denied entry to saitamaya after travelling a while to get there but luckily one of us spoke a little bit of Japanese. I just feel bad when they ask me for point cards or if I want a bag and I go O_O O_O; O____O;

Oh, I like the money tray too. It's more convenient cause when I'm ready as a customer I'll put the money in there instead of waiting awkwardly to give it to you. They're very helpful because a lot of the times I look horribly confused by the coins so the cashier offers to help me out 'orz

What do you mean by that? Don't you always have to touch your coins to take out the right ones, count them and stuff?

Maybe like that awkward hand to hand contact between customers. Lol. I hated dealing with cash when I was in retail also because we had to be really careful about counterfeit money. Japanese money creases and rips so easily. We have plastic money here so you can bunch that sucker up and it'll be fine but my wallet wasn't big enough to contain the notes and they sometimes ripped :\ feels bad man. Japanese notes are wider than Australian notes to my surprise.

Was there ever an incident with counterfeit money where you worked? :o I would have thought that that's a very unlikely thing to happen!
