Oh, you aren't familiar with that custom?
When you find someone who is super lucky, you can borrow some of their luck if you pat their belly!

I remember in my second-to-last year of secondary school, there was this one boy who was always very lucky. Before exams, we would all make him sit on a desk and we'd line up and take turns patting his belly for luck. (Which was funny, because while he was lucky, he wasn't exactly very smart. Super mellow, and really nice, but not very smart. So using it for exams was a bit...)

Eventually his girlfriend made us stop because she said all his luck was hers and we couldn't steal it, but if you bribed her with a nice snack she'd still let you pat his belly. It kind of became like she was his manager? They were really sweet together though. I dunno. Relationships are weird.

Anyhow, yeah. It's a thing. And huggable bellies are even better to pat for luck! They hold so much luck!!

Maybe it's part of your secret for why you're lucky? Hm. You can tell your mom it's to hold all your luck next time she says that.

Yes! We shall post and lure in new people with our activity!

i've heard of a really old wives tale (i think its a chinese one) where if you rub the belly of a pregnant person, you're more likely to get pregnant. xD;; but i dunno if its a western thing too.

pftt, well if you say so. although maybe there's some kind of happy/fortune buddha who has a similar affect? xD;; i dunno.

I've never heard of the pregnant belly thing but then again I'm avoiding pregnancy with all of my effort. It would not be a good time for a kid and I don't like them.

Good for you for being that self-aware. Too many people just don't think about it, and then it's the kid that pays.
*thumbs up emoji would go here if we had one on KofK*

I've not run into the pregnant belly thing before, but it sounds about on the same level, lol. Superstitious nonsense that is surprisingly hard to dislodge from your brain once you've been inculcated with it. >.<

Yeah I took som e more serious measures and got an IUD. Just a heads up for anyone researching them, the peace of mind is great, but they better offer pain meds when you get it.

Superstitions are tough to break. My mother in law has one where you can't directly hand someone scissors because if you do you will accidentally cut ties with that person.

Yeah, we might not have any chinese ancenstry in our family (at least, in the last 8 generations), but we've got plenty of weird superstitions anyhow.
Seems impossible to grow up without them.
It surprises me when still when even as an adult I come across something I didn't realize I was doing because of some buried superstition.

For instance, I know it's silly. I know it. But... if it's foggy or misty out, I won't pass through a gateway that doesn't have a ribbon (or thread, or even a piece of grass, or something like it) tied on it.
I did it ONCE and had terrible sleep for the next few weeks, and it was the only time I'd ever failed an exam in my life, because I was so tired I couldn't think.
I know it's silly. There's nothing reality-based about it at all.
But.
Can't do it.
