Prices are different here, I can buy Quorn or soya at lower prices than the meat. That's always been the way. For some reason, there is a weird taboo about buying them if you aren't vegetarian which seems kinda stupid to me. It's just food, anyone can eat it XD But because of that there is usually only a small selection on offer even though you could go to the next store over and buy different selections, out of the big range that is available. Recently there have been athletes doing advertising campaigns to explain how it can actually be healthier for you than meat and that they use replacements during their training to get good proteins, and I think that helped a lot with getting more options into stores.

Do you mean soya as in soya beans or ready made meat-substitute out of soya? Because they are usually at least double as expensive than the real meat version here.
I am not sure these links work, as it's from a German online supermarket and you need to enter your post code to proceed, but here is an example:
Vegetarian Cordon Blue: 3,25€ für 200g - So 1,63€ for 100g

So the vegetarian version costs more than 3x (!) as much. Crazy, isn't it? It's mostly made out of wheat and soya and I am quite certain that shuldn't cost 3x as much as a pig, but they are taking real advantage of the vegetarian/vegan boom here.
I don't know what Quorn is. My dictionary came up with nothing, so assume it's some kind of brand we don't have here?

Yes, meat-subsitute soya! Amazing, right? Quorn is a brand-name, they developed their own kind of substitute from fungus-type stuff which doesn't have its own name except for being called Quorn. They're British but I don't know if they expanded to other countries under a different name maybe.
Here's a comparison from our local supermarket for their own-brand mince:
Soya Vegetarian Mince 500g - £1.50/unit or £3.00/kg

And that's even going for the very cheapest mince they offer. If I was to compare like for like, since I personally wouldn't buy this "basic" version of mince even if I was eating meat, it goes up to £4.65/kg for beef mince from their mid-range products. (I don't know about other countries but here it's pretty normal for supermarkets to have three versions of each product: basic, mid-range, premium. I normally buy mid-range and that's where they position the soya mince too).
Incidentally, that exact mince is one of our favourite everyday products, they're so tasty and great for curries/pasta/etc XD I didn't eat much meat substitute when I lived on my own but J kind of needs them, and so I ended up loving this mince.

You are really lucky that the vegetarian stuff is so much cheaper there. I think that's how it should be, but they are really taking advantake of the demand here.
I must admit, making meat substitute out of fungus-type stuff doesn't really sound very appealing. I've never heard of it and don't think anything like this is being sold here.

It basically tastes like soya haha. Just a little less bouncy. I think that's why they made up a jibberish name for it instead of saying what it actually is.

I just read up on their homepage, that apparently their products are available in Germany? That's strange. I have never seen them here and I check out the vegetarian corner in every store.

I've heard people say they can make stuff taste just like meat.
I'd be willing to switch if it could taste like all the stuff I like xD
I couldn't give up cheese either.
My mom is lactose intolerant, so she can't have a lot of stuff with dairy.

Oh! I wonder if it's a new expansion so they aren't in all stores yet? Some of their stuff is really good so it's worth a try. Depends on taste of course, I got so bored of eating it when it was the only main product available here that I don't have it much anymore xD

I swear my biggest pet peeve is the substitute for rice. Rice is a staple food item.. for me at least.
I don't know how people like quinoa
I have tried it, not my thing. Didn't like it.
