According to the label, they have "soft fleece for extra insulation". Not that that pinpoints anything specific XD

Yeah, but now days it'd say wool if wool was in them, since fleece has come to mean soft fluffy cloth made from anything from wool to old bottles.

Gosh, I really hate my life right now. So much stuff is going wrong and all at once. The past months have been hard enough and when you think it could not get worse, it does.
Today we got a message that our rent was raised drastically (for the second time)
We can't afford it, couldn't really afford it the first time, so we have to find something new immediately. Unfortunately that's close to impossible with 2 dogs and 3 cats. Last time it took me a year to find something. :( I really hate the renting situation here. There are some nice and affordable apartments available, but they are scarce and too many people are interested in renting them, so they won't take you if you have pets. It's really looking rather hopeless.

Renting is awful. I hate how landlords have the power to just be like "welp you owe me twice as much money now". It should be illegal, everywhere.
We thought we'd got out of that by buying our home, but we managed (or I should say J did, since his parents didn't really allow me to be involved in the buying process) to get sucked in to a place where we pay ground rent to the developers. Of course, the developers then sold the ground to an agency and now they've decided to almost double the ground rent starting from some point this year. We thought about selling to get out of here, but of course this will affect the house value and the selling time as well.

Actually it is ilegal here to raise rent that drastically - But what you gonna do about it? Sue your landlords? As if that's gonna serve for a good rent-landlord relationship and will not just end up in them throwing you out of the apartment at some point. It's a silly law with no point at all. It's also forbidden to forbid the keeping of animals here - Another completely pointless thing. They just won't take you if you have animals and if you just move in without telling them, you will just have a lot of trouble with them. And who wants to live in a constant legal fight with their landlords?
I am sorry about your renting situation. It sucks. I guess almost everywhere. Wish we could move to a cheaper location, but we can't because of starkad's job. I am member in two cooperative building societes in my home town and could probably get an apartment in one of them - But again, can't move easily because of starkad's job, especially not now that he has taken on doing his doctor's degree, because that makes it not only a matter of "finding a new job".
Buying a house would be great, but how am I supposed to afford a house when I can't even afford my current rent? For me that's an impossible dream. Right now I just wish to find an affordable apartment soon. Not having much hope though..
(I am sorry, I am in a very whiny mood right now. I feel like my life is just one utterly hopeless mess)

Nah, everyone gets like that sometimes, you don't need to apologise. Truth is a lot of life is messy!
Yeah, that's true. We had a fight with one of our landlords before. He was so horrible. It was about 3 months before our lease was up and we had planned to stay there, so we had to really quickly find a new place because he was just constantly an asshole to us. Of course, after that, none of the work that the apartment needed got done. And he even managed to take money out of our deposit for something he'd done. In the end, we let that go so we wouldn't have to argue with him anymore and we could just leave.

Uh, I'm sorry to hear about both of your renting situations! We had our rent raised recently as well, but luckily only a little bit that we can deal with.
Firn, if they raised your rent more than what is legal (or you're not sure if it is), maybe you could contact the mieterverband or something like that? I think there are ways to protest this and settle these things without actually having to sue your landlord. I get your point about them just throwing you out sooner or later then, but sometimes people might try to raise the rent more than they should and just hope that nobody protests even though they're ready to back down a bit again in that case to avoid actual legal stress. And if they raised it so much that you feel like you should be looking for a different place it wouldn't hurt much to try maybe?
