They can click it, but they can't give yours up for adoption, so it doesn't matter.

You're welcome. I was worried, too, but someone tried it and it didn't work, so it should be fine.

which would actually make it less likely that the older knuffel get spread around. rather than donating them to newer users, they'd be going to the highest bidder- which actually WOULD be unfair if the point of this is to make older knuffel available to everybody.
Ziaheart wrote:I don't know, butcher... time-limiting in general sounds easier to code than making it only for a specific Knuffel. I think that would need extra information.
probably

it may not be practical but it would help reduce complaints from both sides of the issue, i think. but a general wait time between knuffel purchases wouldn't be out of place either. over at chicken smoothie users may only adopt one pet from the pound in any 24 hr period, for generally the same reasons (to spread out the available pets to the most users.)
Lilandra wrote:So, I don't think that the reason for Firn to have it this way is bandwidth. I rather think it's the issue that it'd need to be coded and starkad already has little time. And there are lots of things starkad currently needs to work on, e.g. the Battling System.
Ziaheart wrote:That said, I realize Starkad is the one who needs to code this and Firn is the one who needs to bug Starkad to code this if it were to be implemented, and that Knuffel is often one of the biggest source of bandwidth usage on this site, so I'll understand if you say it's too much trouble to implement this.
lilandra, i think whoever suggested that it might be bandwidth issues was just trying to give a
possible reason for only being able to choose the final stage once, rather than multiple times. i also think the reason anyone responded at all was because JosieQ did not post an actual suggestion, but an inane and inappropriate rant about "OMGZ MAKEING ROOLZ FOR NO REAZUN FASHIST DICKTAYTOORS !!!11!one!!eleven!!1" about something that is not even a RULE, but a FEATURE, and they were trying to suggest that yes, there really COULD be a reason. though i agree with both you and Zia that it is most likely a coding issue, AND there are things higher on the 'to do' list than that.

I clicked on her and hit adopt...this knuffel is no longer available...I understood. I wasn't fast enough. Then a few minutes later I got a second chance!!! I clicked on her...adopt popped up I clicked and typed in her 4 letter name...I lost her when I hit adopt again! Tell me how fair that is?? I am very disappointed. I wasn't even going to try for one of the older ones because I like the ones I have and I am sure that Firn will again come up with something just as pretty. I don't have a slow computer either. I even turned off the snow just in case. I do feel sorry for those that have a slower computer that really want one and can't get it. I understand you have to catch them but really???after you type in the name??? Oh well.
what i did was type in one letter for her name, like "L" and quickly adopted her. then i changed the name later :P

What exactly do you mean by that?
I don't think that people would do it anytime soon, but I think that people would eventually find some way to resell knuffel. I just thought that it might be better to have a clear rule against it rather than to have some one try it first and then understand that they did something wrong later.
_______
Having to wait daily or hourly sounds like a bit much to me.

When I suggested a waiting time in between adopting I was thinking something more like 5 minutes.

Okay. Lilandra's beaten me to the punch, but I sought out a perma-banned user and tried to delete their lowest level Knuffel. It didn't work. So yeah. No worries! If I can't delete your Knuffel, then you don't have to worry about other normal users deleting your Knuffel, I'm sure. Firn and Starkad totes can, of course. >:D
I think the best rule in this case is "if you pay someone to put their Knuffel up for adoption and someone else adopts it before you can, you cannot pressure the third party into putting it up for adoption once more." And then if such situation occurs, the third party can report the party that's pressuring them to put the Knuffel back up for adoption. But then again, I doubt it would be very easy to figure out who adopted the Knuffel in question.
Also, JosieQ herself came up with the bandwidth reason.

Thanks lost I will try that next time. I have been staring and refreshing my screen once and again for about 2 hours and the only one that popped up was the event knuffel...which I already have. I still think that once you hit adopt and you get to the point of naming it it should be yours. I am glad to see some that have slower computers are still getting them. I was worried that they wouldn't. Since it does seem to be kinda hard to get them I don't think that there is much to worry about people getting more of the same ones. I didn't really care one way or another if I got an older one until I saw the Generation 2 Air and decided I really am going to try hard to get her. I wish everyone luck in getting the ones they want. I guess the biggest thing is patience.

Is there a place in the forums to post requests for older Knuffel, or announce when they are going to give up a Knuffel for adoption?

Zia- you are correct, she did bring it up, but she said it as "it can't possibly be bandwidth, it's just pointless totalitarian authority blah bla" whereas others were trying to be reasonable and show how maybe it COULD be, not to say "pointless rules are A-OK by me!" I don't think anybody was trying to imply that we should never post suggestions, requests, or ideas. maybe that they should just be posted in the proper forum, and perhaps not while frothing at the mouth.
i was just really annoyed by her post. being that choosing the final stage is a relatively recent feature, i don't think saying "it's TERRIBLE that you can only choose once!" is either very appreciative nor is it constructive. and comparing a knuffel feature to an unchangeable & iron-clad rule is just absurd. you might as well rant that it's draconian conspiracy that we can only dig a certain amount of times per day or that we are told what materials we MUST use in a quest.
Willow- patience & a bit of luck :-) i should also add that i have the hand-eye coordination of a slug, so if i can do it, it is possible for most anyone.
Amulet- i don't know if a request thread is a good idea, as it could lead to the whole "well i'll let it go if you pay me XXX" problem, but one for about to be released knuffel sounds really great.
