@Nan: I'd have been happy to learn the term back then, lol, we had to muddle through with some very confused teachers and didn't get most of the useful vocabulary for describing language(s) and grammar.

It was highly frustrating yes! And if we had enough of an instinctual grasp of grammar to pass cursory muster then we were never worked with to actually learn any of it, so college suddenly became far more difficult than it needed to be.

Yea, no kidding :l College is hard as it is, imagine having less studying material!
