Alright, now I have to ask!
What's the difference between "whisky" and "whiskey"?

i wouldn't be surprised lol. XD spelling is weird that way.
and there's no difference, just in where you're from. like how Canada spells things like colour and neighbour but the States spell it without the u's. i think its the difference between British English and American English?

And Europe usually learns the British spelling so Firn would definitely spell it doughnut.

To make a long explanation short, whiskey (with an ‘e’) refers to grain spirits distilled in Ireland and the United States. Whisky (with no ‘e’) refers to Scottish, Canadian, or Japanese grain spirits.

Fun fact! The u and simplification of words had to do with costs! In Colonial Europe, newspapers charged by the word. In the Colonial States, they charged by the letter. So if a letter wasn't really necessary, it was dropped. While it certainly doesn't explain every word, it covers the vast majority

There's a lot of stuff with different spellings/names due to region of make
Champagne must come from a specific region otherwise it's sparkling wine is the one I always remember

Named after the Champagne region of France:

I always thought we dropped a lot of extra letters just to thumb our nose at England. That's interesting!

For food, it works more or less like a trademark. There are a lot of things like this, like Kobe Beef for example, or cheese.
