i'm studying humanities at a liberal arts college. :qwhee: and if i'm planning to take a break before grad school to do get the yoga instructor's license, and intern at a publishing house in my city. i'll simultaneously prepare for master's entrances; literary and cultural studies is my top pick right now.

ok that really pisses me off. they can't believe so much in their own knowledge being superior to the extent they think your disorder can't exist if they don't already know about it. like. overblown ego is understating it! you know your body best. i LOATHE the 'it's all in your head', i used to get it a lot when i tried to get help for IBS, and it's just demeaning. like, just because you, who are supposed to be professional, can't figure it out right away, does NOT mean i'm imagining it or that i can make it go poof with just an 'attitude change'. :mcargh: and i can't even begin on them saying you're hurting because you're fat, like???? how do they work that out? how does that even make sense??? like, 'you're fat so you're unhealthy so that's why you have these symptoms we can't make sense of. we can't make sense of them. but because you have symptoms, you're unhealthy. and you happen to be fat. so you're unhealthy because you're fat. there, we've tied it all together. yay' *slow claps* that is realllyyyy reaching.

i'm sorry to go off on a rant but like. i couldn't help it. these people are unbelievably stupid :mcsweat:

I get the same thing for my fibro too. It's all in your head or my favourite, the test says there's nothing wrong so you're fine 8D Oh hey maybe we could do another test because your first guess was wrong? Maybe??
Doctors... there are a few good ones out there, but for the most part, the ones I've met are just idiots with fancier degrees. It makes me almost laugh to think how loose the requirements must be if people can get a medical license and they haven't heard of something like EDS, which even I, not even remotely a medical person, have heard of and know at least a little bit about. Or that they can't, like, Google it if they have a patient sat in front of them that already has that diagnosis. And then to think that some people don't even pass those requirements. How much worse must those people be?!

yeah! good doctors are hard to come by, especially for chronic diseases, i think. they don't bother to do their research and they're impatient to boot. and it is such a pain to try to get them to research a bit; they're too egotistic even to take suggestions or talk through ideas you might have- which makes no sense because you're the one experiencing the illness. since ibs doesn't have a single cause (it's really just a collection of symptoms they've put under that name, so in that sense it's not really a single illness.) i was trying to find out triggers, and to rule out other diseases, diagnosable and with defined causes, that manifest with similar symptoms. it was like, impossible to suggest a test or suggest we rule something out, if the doctor themselves don't suggest it first! like there's no point even trying to bring up the research you yourself have done, or possibilities you yourself have thought of. :mcargh:

what's even worse... it's often disadvantaged people that doctors refuse to listen to. :mcmeh:

and then everyone wonders why healthcare is in crisis, or why some people don't trust doctors.
like sometimes it feels like the last instead of the first resort. :mcmeh:

Exactly, or they wonder 'why don't you get treatment for that'. Uh because doctors don't even believe it exists so yeah

Also last time I went to the doctor for something else, a normal non-chronic thing, it was super traumatic with them being really rude, not telling me what was going on... I actually had a (very) minor surgical procedure that I didn't know I was going in for until they had me in the room to do it. I was like whaaaaaaa? And then they just sent me on home with no explanaton or anything afterwards. And that's just for a 'normal', simple complaint that could happen to anyone.
And don't even get me started on places where healthcare isn't free like it is for us.

I'm in the U.S.. It's awful here. People treat the disabled like total garbage. Especially if it's an invisible disease like all of mine.

Trying to get any sort of treatment is so difficult.

My latest doctor is more understanding, but she's just a general practitioner. There are a ton of things she can't do. She's been trying to get me in to see some specialists but that's not been going well at all.

I haven't really had issues with doctors treating me like nothing was wrong with me.
Most of them seemed like they understood and cared.
Especially my last doctor.
He seemed really concerned. And it was annoying sometimes xD
But it made me happy that he cared so much.

My mom is currently trying to get SSI/Disability.
She has a lot of damage to her body and her mind.
I'm hoping they'll give it to her because it's all documented.

If I didn't have my insurance, I couldn't afford to see doctors or get my medication.
I've seen so many people get turned away and not get their medication that they NEED because they couldn't afford it.

I was talking to my mom about this last night and she started talking about how people make too much food and just throw it out.
I'm not talking about families, but places like hospitals and prisons and stuff.
Make too much, not all of it gets eaten, throw it in the garbage.
I'm sure people have good reasons(?) for throwing out good food, but when you got people starving - why not let them have it?
People that are hungry aren't going to be picky.
They're hungry -they want food. Why throw it in the garbage?

I get made fun of because I'm extremely cheap. Is it a wonder why I'm so cheap? Stuff is expensive. You gotta save what you can >_>

I understand that completely, it's one of the reasons I still live with my parents honestly... Though I think once I get my third job and get my business a little bit more off the ground it will be fine. My introvertedness is hindering me a little, but it will be okay.

I avoid doctors honestly. Besides my PCOS, there really isn't anything wrong with me thank God and whoever else is up there. Getting to a dentist though is a bit of an issue though. I get overwhelmed looking at all the insurance options and paying out of pocket is out of the question at the moment...

Smaller portions would certainly go a long way too honestly. My dad used to, and still does on occasion, say that children in Africa would love to have our food and it's extremely wasteful if we don't eat all of what is on our plates. Trouble is there is too much on the plate and no one around to give it to if I don't want it or the leftovers. I think people went crazy after the great depression.

light_sucks: I didn't share any details or anything, but I asked a friend and coworker of mine that's a nurse PA if she's heard of your disorder and she says that she had and that she use to have a patient with it. If I remember correctly, which is a big maybe as it has been several hours and at 25 my memory is that of a goldfish, there wasn't much she could do to treat them, but she did recommend a rheumatologist to them and that seemed to help. I could be wrong as there was several conversations going on at once and my mind was trying to focus on all of them. Please feel free to tell me to mind my own business though if I'm out of line for saying anything at all.

I'm seeing a new therapist.
And he actually annoys me, so I'm gonna try to get a new one, lol.
He doesn't out right act like he doesn't care, but it shows in his work.
That I have to tell him the same things over and over, he's always behind
so our 45 minute sessions really only last for 20 minutes, which is probably
why he never remembers anything . . . and I need anxiety medication but
he's telling me I have a level head, and that I can make it without help.

. . . Which is nice and all, that he thinks so, but I know myself better
than he knows me, lol. I'm concerned for myself and my well being.
I'm okay at this moment, but I sink easily. And I have a newborn, a 4 year
old and a fiance, I need to make sure I'm okay more than just some times.

I guess he's gonna wait until I have a breakdown \u8/
