I honestly feel like solar is the best answer. It's a TON of completely free energy just raining down on us constantly. Don't have to build anything, no waste to worry about.
I'm not completely against nuclear. It needs a lot more research.

We could use renewable energy completely if governments were willing to invest into the infrastructure. It's unlimited after all. It's just that it's usually cheaper and easier to set up non-renewable plants. Like people here are always complaining about wind farms, which I really don't get at all, but in the end it's often easier for the government not to build them so they don't get the hassle from residents.

Well solar can't store energy, well even with say a tesla battery to store it, you still waste a lot of energy that the solar panels collected.
Ah on waste, they are working on ways to use it. I think there are some plants in the US that do this already. So it's recyclable.. in a way.
Annd tbh the two places where we had issues with nuclear power plants going wrong, well one was it was just kinda new... so there's that for a fault. And the 2nd, being in Fukushima well that was built in the wrong spot from what I've read up on it. Also a tsunami happened. That bit is out of our control.
I mean I know that uranium isn't a unlimited supply nor a great one but it's there.
Also do we know if there are long term effects for solar power? I mean solar is from the sun.. a giant ball of burning gas that has radiation..
That said again my knowledge isn't much and I do struggle to go 'this is what I think' because for me it's something I just read up about on science pages. And I'm not great at explaining my point....
Also we use a looot of energy to build solar panels.

Well, you need to distribute the solar energy, you need good nets for that and you don't want to use solar alone. You want to have a mix of different renewable sources so that you don't get big differences in how much is produced at any given time, then you don't have the storage issues. And there are ways to store energy as well, like big plants where you pump water up into a higher basin when you have energy left over and let the water flood back down and collect energy from the movement when you need it. (Not sure what their name is in english) But those need the right location and it's therefore not so easy to get enough of them.
The recycling of waste is (at least last time I looked into this, which is admittedly a few years ago) not that fancy (yet?) though - it's mostly just a bit less waste that needs not quite as long until it is not radioactive anymore, but still really really long. So it lessens the issue a bit, but is not really a solution in the sense of "we don't have any waste that we don't know how to store".
Ehm, all the radiation of the sun that we can harvest with solar power plants hits our planet anyway. It's not like we can draw more out of the sun by putting up some solar panels here ;) So there is not really an issue there...
But you are right that building solar panels has its problems, we need some pretty rare resources for them still. There's definitely room for improvement there.
jacob, I feel you on the wind farms! I don't get how people can be so upset about them. Maybe it's because I grew up in a region where we had them since I can remember, so to me their sight is just normal.

Honestly it reminds me of pens.
If you look at the common pens people use every day, they are made of plastic and have lots of waste parts, and while the ink technically you can refill, almost no one does; it's often sometimes cheaper to buy a whole new pen than it is to use an ink refill.
And then when they sell them, they package them in more plastic.
It's a huge source of constant waste which is bad for the environment and takes a long time to dispose of....
and we have 'renewable' (or at least better) options out there, we've known about them for ages.
They just aren't as convenient.
So we use the one that is bad for us long-term.
It's such a small, every-day thing. But it is the same issue as energy sources, just on a smaller scale.

Plastic is super awful for the environment.
We really need to reduce the amount of plastic we use.
I've been using a lot less straws in an attempt to help.

True, but a lot of people don't even try to reuse it.
So many people at parties get a new plastic cup for every drink they have. It's insane.
Then there are the people who rewash the plastic cups and reuse them until they crack.
I am in the middle. lol. I will rinse the cups but I will not wash them. If I was gonna do that I would just use my regular cups.
