I firmly associate glitter with David Bowie's character Jareth from the movie Labyrinth, so every time someone mentions glitter I start wondering where Skeep the cross-dressing Goblin is.

This is all from following a comic called "Girls Next Door" (Christine from Phantom of the Opera and Sarah from Labyrinth go to college and are roommates and commiserate over having stalkers that people ship them with) which is done by an artist whose style of plotting makes me giggle.

link here, for the curious
(that goes to the deviantart page; I don't know how complete the previous/next buttons are for just following the GND comic; I usually save the pages once she posts them so I can read them in order. Pity so many of the characters are copyrighted, because I'd buy the book if she were able to publish it)

Wait how/why are you getting covered in glitter every day?

Do you work in a pixie sweat-shop?! *Suspicious*

OOooh, that would explain it. I think I've seen the sort of thing you mean. Styrofoam or plastic globes covered in silver glitter with a hook stuck in the top so they can be attached somewhere, or string dipped in a mix of liquid starch and glue, coated in glitter, and then draped in a snowflake pattern until it dries and again the ubiquitous hook placed on top for hanging.... that kind of thing? I see a lot of little displays with things like that, this time of year. Usually with a placard naming the charity they support and an honor-system jar to pay into if you buy any. I suspect there's a number of people who just donate without taking one since they look a little dubious. Or at least enough to balance out the people who take one without paying, at any rate.

I helped unpack myer's xmas stock one year...

soo much glitter.

And I learned they rip people off on the xmas tress they sell... they get them for like $10 or something and sell them for like $200+.

that said I got an awesome penguin plushie for $30. Which is awesome price for the size and softness of it.

so when they "slash prices!" and mark it "75% off!!! Clearance rates!" they're still actually making a handy profit. Yeah, I definitely believe that.

penguin plushie sounds cute and cuddly and appealing. What did you name it?
