Well, they did invent a lot of side story for part two... Tauriel, I'm looking at you!
Also, the fact that the hobbit is written with less detail means that the same amount of story fits in a smaller book. So that is an argument in favour of more films, isn't it?
But I'm looking forward to the next part as well :)
