I thought it was something about their shell that gave it away. I could be crazy but I thought males had a slight indent or curve on their belly.

I’m not really sure tbh. I think tail size had something to do with it too but I could be wrong.

It might be. I know tail length from butt hole to tip is how its done for snakes.

i know for snakes, its easy to tell. i learned that tail length is also indicative of whether its a boy or a girl. so i assumed turtles were the same. xD

It honestly might be because the last time I was asked to tell if a turtle was male or female was over 10 years ago and I forget what I did.

Well, for tortoises you look at the plastron.
But I don't know if that holds true for turtles?
At least, all the tortoises I know how to tell, you look at the plastron.
The world being as strange and wonderful as it is, I bet there are species out there which don't have a gender determined difference there.
But I don't know 'em.
Also.
Am I the only one curious about Outline's choice of names? How did you come to name your pet Duckie?
Duckie was what my cousin named her first pet chicken.
Which, okay, she was two at the time.
No one could convince her the chick wouldn't grow up into a duck.
My uncle fiercely debated with my aunt on if they should swap the chick for a duckling, because he seriously overindulges my cousin given half a chance, but Auntie won that one and a hen it grew into. (My cousin is now twenty-six and, naturally, we all still tease her about Duckie. She is also still massively overindulged by her father, but fortunately she's matured a lot and mostly only uses this superpower for good)
Somehow I don't think your pet's name comes from a similar source of species confusion!

My first cat was named Mouse. Grey/diluted calico. I was also very young when I named her. She was my grumpy old broad of a drooler when she was old. If you slept on the couch, you'd wake up to her sitting above you, drooling into either your eyes or your ear, depending on how you slept

The plastron is the belly of the shell correct? I could be wrong.
Duckie is such a cute name.
All of our axolotls names are TV or video game references with only one exception.
