To be honest I don't think I'd ever want to meet anyone I'm a fan of, especially privately. A meet and greet sure because they'd still project their "work" image but privately I wouldn't want to be disappointed.

I wonder if it's mostly a cultural thing or a generational thing?
Or some other factor.
I'd say a bit of everything.
And in Japan especially, agencies are REALLY strict with their talents images so no posting on Instagram. At most you could take a picture and brag to your friends.
It's started to slowly get more relaxed but some of them are nuts.

I’ve randomly been in Toronto when they were filming stuff. Like when the filmed Suicide Squad, I remember I had to take an evening train and I was stopped at an intersection along with other ppl bc they were filming. And here I am going “I’m gonna miss my train, like I’d have to wait another HOUR for one” lol.

I was also wandering around in Toronto when they were filming Pixels. I remember seeing one street with those colourful mini coopers. And I remember seeing a fake American subway station that led into the concrete (cuz it was fake lol) and a US post box. Lol
But those fakes are SO good.
Have seen the filming of like the first five seconds of Sherlock Holmes II and the whole thing was absolutely stunning. You know it's fake but it's very high quality fake.

Lol well it was interesting nonetheless. Fake or not. It was so cool to see.

And I get it lol. Like you don’t want to be disappointed when you see someone famous outside of their work persona. Like you might become disillusioned.

I don't live in a city nor the center so it hasn't been that much shouting and stuff,
But there was at least little bit to hear during the previous games where they scored more XD
I lived in a tiny village, like 500 people in the middle of nowhere in France, and last time France won, the noise was crazy. People were having fireworks everywhere.
People are crazy about soccer.
Woah, that sounds crazy.
The village I live in is about ~3000 people...
I don't really remember what it was like the last time Germany won. As for this time, we'll see how the noise/partying will build up if the German team progresses further. Not sure if id expect fireworks if the, win but at least a little something XD
So Yesterday was the match Germany/Denmark and again it was pretty quite... I guess most people watched inside because of the unstable weather and thunderstorm predictions.
I went to bed early when I suddenly woke up by some noise which was indeed: fireworks! XDDD
I couldn't see them only hear them but still I was surprised XD

Yeah we had some heavy rain here too
And of course, two of my cats decided to hide under the back porch which is wood with gaps and open air and not the front porch which is concrete and mostly covered and would not come out until I went out into the downpour to convince them to come out from under and into the house
Oh and the wind was driving the rain into the house from three directions

Oh yeah I was watching the game on the tv and they had to stop the match for almost half an hour at the 35th minute bc there was lightning and hail. It was ridiculous lol. The people in the bleachers had to move up the stands bc they were getting drenched altho the cameras did pan towards some people who had just taken off their shirts and were just dancing in the rain lol.

So when there's a sports event that's so big in the news like this, is it usually a single game or a series of games? How many games?

its a series of games. its like......i think 4 teams per group? they play games together and the ones with the most points after like 2-3 games will go on to the quarterfinals? and then the winners will play with the winners of each group and losers will play losers til the end. so no, not a single game. like for the euros, just the first group matches, there's like....6 groups, groups A-F, each group has like four countries/teams. after like....3 group matches for each team, the 16 with the highest points goes on to the match of 16 and the rest are out. and then they just keep matching them depending on points and such. like wins, losses and ties have a certain amount of points. i dunno the full rules or guidelines, i just like watching the goals. lol

I'm pretty sure you got extra points for goals made during a match too.
But yeah it's usually a series of games, due to, in part, ad revenue, because more games mean more ad revenue. The whole 4 teams per group system is also pretty standard for team sports as far as I remember.
Also more people coming to see the games and it gives quite a boost to the tourism industry.

But then it also depends on the sport and region. Like the Euros there's also an Asia soccer cup but the following isn't as huge as in Europe so the whole TV thing is really toned down.

Though Japan is pretty opportunist when it comes to TV, you get TV coverage of anything Japan has a chance to win. Coverage of anything sports related happening outside of the country is because there is a Japanese athlete in the team and even so it's pretty rare (with the exception of baseball, I am sick of seeing Ohtani's face everyday).

See, nothing keeps the winning team fans from fireworks XD

I’m not sure what the full rules of everything is lol. My dad might know lol. Like I didn’t even know that players could lie down on the field during free kicks to prevent balls from slipping between players and such. And that referees could even give yellow cards/fouls to people who ARENT EVEN PLAYING like the team couch and stuff. I saw it during two of the games I think lol.

I need to catch up on the highlights lol. I’m checking out both the euros and copa america.

I think giving yellow card to people who aren't actively playing is a recent development. If I remember well it's because the referees were getting harassed quite a lot. Or maybe I remember wrong.
