Well, that's encouraging!
From what you described, it does sound like a loose connection or a broken wire, rather than the block. Good luck! I hope you can fix it!!!

Me too! I have one idea if it doesn't work, though... can I use the usb place in the computer to attach it to a charging thing? Like how a lot of plugs have a place to plug into the wall and on the other side a usb connection, so I could just get a usb-usb cord? Those are pretty cheap... would that work?
Or would that break the computer?

It depends on your computer if the usb port can be used for charging. For most normal big laptops that come with a separate charging port it probably won't work (not sure if it might break something then). Charging via usb is mostly used for small devices like phones and tablets to get away with fewer ports. I'm not sure if usb charging works with the amounts of electricity (not sure what is the relevant part here, current? voltage?) a bigger device needs, but then again, we have already seen quite some improvements in that area if I compare my older phone chargers and my newer ones (all usb, still work with the same phone, but new one is a lot faster).

Okay, first try the wiring fix, then if that doesn't work, try something else. Yep. Plan of attack, ho! In the meanwhile, think I've got the proper angle figured out, at least.

Chargers are so expensive >.> Mine broke not that long ago, the piece that connects it to the computer fell right off! Luckily we managed to glue it back on and it's kept working *phew* I really don't want to buy a new one when it's already a replacement for the original one, and I'll probably have to replace the whole computer next year. (The fan broke and had to get replaced about a month ago, and the disk reader isn't working anymore either. *grumblegrumble*)

Yeah that is sounding like a frustrating end-of-useful-life-period experience...
It seems like computers break a lot faster now. Is that just me?

Probably? It could just be because they have to do a lot more complicated things now.
This is my first laptop, and it's about six. My best friend's original laptop (which was her mother's before that) was 15+ when it died! She referred to it as the dinosaur - it was really slow and couldn't run a lot of things, but for the basics it still worked fine.

Yeah.... could be that simple...
(It's funny. Every time I have to restart this, the screen brightness resets, and it has to be dimmed again. Weird.)
I like that name for it! The dinosaur. Makes it sound exotic and fun. :)

Or it could be not....Though I suppose "they're built so you have to replace them" is pretty simple too, just sucky.
The computer? That is strange! I wonder why it doesn't remember your settings. Is that a new issue?

Maybe not... .I'm super unobservant. So it may have always been happening and I just notice now because I'm having to restart a bunch in a row and it's dark out, so it's really obvious that the screen is becoming super bright again each time.
