That's true. Though there are a few yaoi and yuri manga/anime out there that are purely romantic fluff

Yaoi is the smut form as it stands for " yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi (山[場]なし、落ちなし、意味なし)" which means "no climax, no point, no meaning" While most Yaoi do have SOME plot or story (Ai no Kusabi, Skyscrapers of Oz, Level C, Okane ga Nai, Sex Pistols/Love Pistols) it still basically as a lot of focus on sex, hence smut/porn. Sensative Pornograph, Boku no Sexual Harassment both have less plot than the others listed and are basically just porn, but still have SOME story to them. Like.. most cheap pornos. xD


Shounen Ai is both the main genre that covers both, and the sub genre for the fluff romance. Boys Love is basically its translation, and it's now what's widely used now instead of Shounen Ai. But it's still the same thing as it covers all sub genre while also BEING the fluff sub genre.

Then there's Tanbi which is older male younger male stuff, if you wanna get even MORE sub genre. Junjou Romantica comes to mind. Oh! Naono Bohra's stuff is famous for the 'Tanbi' genre! Love her works >w<

June use to be a term used.. but it got phased out.. and the reason has something to do with the actual JUNE publishing company (a majority of my BL/Yaoi collecting is from JUNE)


Shoujo Ai and Yuri follows the same rules pretty much. While I do enjoy a good Shoujo Ai from time to time, I don't read/watch much Yuri. Strawberry Panic and Bloom into You are my two favorites.

Yes I'm aware of all of that. It's just easier to say yaoi/yuri when I'm trying to type out a post really quick

o3o that'd confuse the heck outta me then.. I'd end up expecting smut from the titles suggested that way only to find it to be fluff.


though.. speaking of BL.. I need to get vols 3-6 of GIVEN ._. I got behind when the virus hit. Swagbucks video thingy stopped giving points during the stupid virus and so I couldn't get enough to cash in for giftcards. >:x
