No, unless you live in a major city, you absolutely need a car (or someone who can be your driver.) Reliance on automobiles is just a part of society, at least in many places. If you're in a major city, there might be enough public transportation to survive without one, but that's it.
I work in Greenfield Village, we talk about farmers and farming all the time, and even though there are more modern ways of farming so it wouldn't be exactly the same, there is no way I'd want to get involved in that kind of life.

Oh, I'm aware of the need for a car, and that's what's got me feeling very trapped. I absolutely do not want to live in a big city and I really don't like the very act of driving (I've mentioned the collisions, right? Yep.), never mind all the costs...
Yeah, yeah XD

I like both of them (as someone who's still never listened to the thing). I think the second one is a little more subtle, but I don't know if that makes it better, necessarily.
...also, I love driving, for some reason. Though I wish I could afford a hybrid or something. Or that solar-powered personal cars were a thing. Because driving is awesome but also horrible for the environment, heh.

I would like driving more if there were less drivers around.

And construction. Empty, construction-less roads would be great!
Except in big confusing cities. Those would still suck.
