Dark: yeah I haven't really liked much of the alcohol I've tried. Everytime there is something I sort of like I'll think 'I'd probably like this better without the alcohol in it' haha

Kat: IB is sort of like AP since you have to take tests for all the subjects you took at the end of the year. The differences are that you can't pick an choose like in AP ( you can pick something like which science you want, but it has to be IB) and the IB tests test you in a way that's like 'we assume you know nothing, now show us what you do know' and AP is like 'We assume you know everything, so we'll see what you don't know'

how much math homework do you have to do?

Not much.
It's just a problem because i need the math work book but I haven't bought it yet

because the work book comes with the online book but i already have the book and I don't really want to go ask "well..can I just buy the work book...?"

Ooh man, I knew I shouldn't have gone to bed so soon.

I've got a sort of theory going on a (subset of) hospitality, because my family is split. My Southern mother finds my dad's northern family to be utterly exhausting when they visit, and I think it's because they're so direct that it piles on top of her working hard to keep everything nice and trying to anticipate their needs...

It seems to fit into high and low context culture; in this case, it's how much a host is expected to provide and how much a guest will directly request. A casual host suits a guest who is very explicit about their needs, while an active, accommodating host does better with a guest who tries to make the situation easier for them and doesn't ask for so much (the ideal says they shouldn't need to ask, anyway). I think that's how both work and everyone gets their needs met, but there's something really nice about the latter - going all out for a guest and a guest being very appreciative about it... That's how things play out on the southern side of my family, anyway, and I haven't really seen anything quite like it in the other places I've lived... I do like that part, even if some other things make me cringe.

Also, it gives me a prickly feeling that your friend would call you a yankee, Frogger. :<

@Sin -- Shouldn't you be able to just buy the work book, though? From a textbook broker or something? I've never had a problem getting just one or the other (but then I do have someone helping me get stuff because social interaction... v_v; )

Yes! That's what it is Tea. Yeah I notice in the south it's more common to also express your appreciation to someone for helping out or having them over or whatever. That's one of the only parts I like about the south haha
I just remember one of my friend's in college never saying 'bless you' (or even 'Gesundheit' ) when someone would sneeze and it bugged me so much haha

yeah :< she doesn't say it often though...I just feel like there is something better should could use that actually fits me haha

I don't say anything mostly because...I don't know, I'm very scientific and there's no logical reason to say something? Bless you is silly coming from me, being agnostic and all. Why would I be saying "bless you" (which is just shortened from God Bless You). And I have some German in me, but I'm not really a German speaker, so Gesundheit is kind of random.

It also makes me actually feel a little uncomfortable when someone says "Bless You" to me, because I'm like "err...do I say thank you? What am I supposed to do now?"

And religion is kind of...another thing that makes me a little...nervous, for lack of a better word, about the South. It's kind of got a reputation for being really religious, and I wouldn't do well with people like that. I don't dislike religion in theory. I can't buy it myself, but I can understand the individual's need for some sort of spiritual guidance. But at the same time, I tend to be...untrusting of religion, because being overly religious can lead to...well, a lot of things. I mean, just look at the past. Patriotism is the same way, a little is fine, but when you get too much, it can cause problems.

As for hospitality, I can certainly see the appeal to that. I mean, I like the idea of being a really good host (ideally, I don't have a place with which to host people really), and having things set out, and getting things for people and stuff (ask Caden, I tend to constantly ask if she wants a drink when I'm going downstairs or something). It's probably not exactly the same, but I can still see the appeal.

I only say bless you instead of Gesundheit because it's what I'm used to. I don't go to church or anything and I'm pretty sure I'm agnostic at this point too. So for me saying 'bless you' has no religious meaning, it's just someone being nice and wishing you well.

and yep you just say 'thanks' and move on haha that's about it

but yeah I mean I never brought it up to her since I know it's just something some people don't do and I just had to deal with

I don't mind religious people in general, just the ones that are nutso about it and have to be jerks (and same with atheists that have to be jerks about religion)

well, technically being an athiest is, in a matter of speaking, being religious. Your religion is just based on the lack of God heh. So it falls into it. And I don't mind religious people to a point. It can get a bit annoying when they give God credit for everything. Like, Doctors spend hours reviving and saving an accident victim, and they're like "God was with us" and crap like that. It's like "yeah, those Doctors were just totally sitting their watching. Not like they did anything." But mostly it's when religious people go too far, and mob mentality gets mixed in with it that it becomes a huge problem.

Also, maybe I still hold it against Catholics that they were so mean to science in the past =p

Also, do you know why people started saying anything when a person sneezed?

Because they thought sneezing was losing a part of your soul or so?
I don't care, I use bless you anyway. Make you feel awkard for daring to sneeze.

Tea: Well the digital book access and the notes were togehter. But I got lucky and they let me buy just the notes. 18 dollars tho, jeeze.
