Kingdom of Knuffel

I can't say I grew up on Ghibli.. didn't see my first ghibli movie till I was about.. 10? and nothing after that either until I was 14-15 when I got into anime.

My mom recorded some ghibli movies and disney movies on vhs in Chinese. So i grew up on those lol. XD;;

The animated movies, Old Yeller, and the Davey Crockett movies are the extent of my Disney exposure, until a neighbor lent me their Kiki's Delivery Service VHS.


My mom never could use the VHS player, so she just bought stuff like Robin Hood, Lion King, anything with a disney princess.. and I'd be the one to work the player. o3o

She always said I was a genius for being able to work those things at the age of 2... o3o, like not that difficult.. pop in the tape and push play.

Yeah i had kiki and totoro on vhs i think, and i think nausicaa? And grave of the fireflies. I also had chinese versions of snow white, cinderella, little mermaid and sleeping beauty i think. So most of the main princess ones. XD;;

Once I got into anime, I had Kiki, Nausicaa, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky and Princess Mononoke on VHS

DVD's came out, and I gotten Howl's Moving Castle and the Cat returns..

Landlady threw a fit about us having too much stuff, and even pointed to mom's cassette tapes and my VHS tapes and bitched about how we don't use those anymore, so I tossed them all out in anger.. poor people can't have stuff after all...

So I rebought all the ghibli movies I previously owned on bluray + Whispers of the Heart and Totoro.. Also rebought Howl's Moving Castle... because I wore out the DVD >w>, hehe

yup, i've watched all of those. mostly in chinese although i did start watching them in japanese with english subtitles at one point. still, i like listening to it in chinese because i can understand it just by listening to it. xD

They're beautiful movies.

I once made San's wolf hood/mask thing (Princess Mononoke) for halloween.. got accused for being KKK =3=

Anime wasn't mainstream back then so they never heard of the movie... and all they saw was the white fluffy top (AND EARS!) and missed the red face part (which I made with cloth and nailpolish since I didn't have clay)

Lol i see. Well everyone should know what ghibli isssss…we should infect the world with ghibliiii~
