I loveloveloved Shape of Water. My only problem is I went to watch it with my parents. My typically orthodox(ish?) Indian parents.

I loved the usage of ASL, as well as the idea of a fishman coming and telling her who she really is.

Also, the flooding of the house XD

Jill Valentine - You loved the movie? Aw, I'm sad it makes you think of your ex though. Poor thing.

Sanssouci - I wish that more of the book got put on the screen. Would have been so good. But I loved it anyway.

CycloneKira - I loved it too. So good!
Oh no! What was their reaction?

Yaasss! ASL is not represented enough in media. It's very cool. Yes, I loved that part too. I would love it if they made a sequel. See what they're getting up to in the jungle.
Yes, I love the look she gave her friend over the fishman's shoulder. So sweet.

Well, my father just commented on how he thought the movie was made differently, and he's not wrong. My mother, on the other hand, said she didn't understand or like it particularly, which is what she does with movies that she thinks are too forward or non-conservative for her taste.

I know right, ASL isn't talked about much. In fact, after watching the movie, I tried learning a few signs of ASL and it also inspired me to pick up some Indian sign language as well, just in case. If only more movies were made about such things, so that people are more aware.

While I like the idea of a sequel somewhat, I sort of feel that a lot of people don't know how to make a sequel very well, and it affects the magic of the first. But I'd love to see a second if it's made well enough XP

-replies a million years later-

Well, it is a Guillermo del Toro film. He do like to make movies a little (a lot) different than most people. But I really like his movies. They're so interesting.

I think it's good for everyone to know at least a little bit of sign language. It's very helpful for lots of things. Like you can sign across a room to someone who can't hear you. Or even under water. So many options.

That's true. Lots of sequels suck. I guess that's why there's fanfiction. lol.
