I think all the male avatars are doomed to look gay, I just can't come up with manly looking clothes....

Yes, but that's what you have with all avatar sites.
Just look at Roliana or Zantarni - They use the exactly same bases expect for the female ones having breasts. The ones of Gaia are very similar too.
You cannot come up with 2 completely different looking bases unless you want to have to make EVERY single item 2.

Edit: Starkad complained that most of the shirts looked gay on the male avatars - That's because they are female items in the first place.
I want to make all items unisex, so people have to deal with clothes that look wrong on male avatars - it's like in RL: Women can wear men's clothes easily, while men would look stupid in most female clothes. I just want to let people chose for themselves what to put on their avatar.
I have a male mule on Gaia that I love to dress in pink female clothes....
