Yeah it stopped banging now but a friend who visited picked the towel up because he thought it fell and then it started banging again haha.

As proof of concepts go, though, that's pretty indicative. I don't know what your living situation is but if this is a permanent abode for you, a small strip of long-pile carpet like that, you can probably pick it up free if you put word out among local contractors/stores. It's the sort of narrow strip that could easily be left over after an installation, and they'd otherwise just junk it, so... :)

I will do this just didn't really have the time - you know when you get lazy about all the small things. I will move out by next year, just renting a place next to my university and there seem to be quite a few problems with it but nothing too bad or that can't be tolerated on a short-term basis.

I thought of the towel for my spike problem, but there's a door that is used, and I'm worried about the towel moving.

The spike is there from the new carpet installation, I think. Can only be careful for now...

As for the avatar I'm afraid not - not too sure how to use them yet...

@mythical I think a towel might be a tricky idea, like someone who visits might trip over it or even you might forget about it eventually? My best bet would be either pulling it out or pushing it in if it's possible.
