You've got a clurichaun for a familiar. Not really an animal, save that yours is a bit of a shapeshifter and can take the form of a cat. Pubs let him in thinking he'd be a good mouser and then wonder where all their stock went....

you love to take him with you to parties because then you don't have to worry about your friends overindulging; the alcohol gets drunk too quickly by your familiar instead.

Your animal companion tonight is a secretary bird. Not the real life version that looks neat but is of strictly avian intelligence, but a fantasy version where secretary birds are actually perfectly capable of acting as secretaries, and are highly popular thereby.

You've got a teensy tiny little vole for a familiar. It has a lot of energy when it's awake but then will suddenly fall asleep and nap for a bit in the middle of something. No middle ground, either on and doing things in a frantic rush, or off and totally out of it. It likes to curl up in your red-and-white hair to sleep so that when it wakes up it can be way up high and see where it is before rushing off again.

Your familiar is an undersized reindeer runt that didn't grow strong enough to help pull a sleigh.
