It depends. Some people just won't pay, no matter what. I'm not interested (as a marketer) in making those people into fans, because it won't make a change in the amount of book sales. I actually personally never buy ebooks because I prefer buying hard copies. So if I become a fan of an author through a free read but their other books are paid downloads only, that won't get them any money. Also you have to consider the vast majority of people won't ever leave a review, let alone buy books for others, so you're describing a kind of rare scenario.

I don't know. I'm still really slacking off with my reading. I need to finish We Are Unprepared.

I like it a lot so far! I'm a little more than halfway. But I just keep putting it on the backburner or losing it, so I've been working on it for like two years....

It doesn't matter if I'm a fan of them, I still won't buy paid Kindle books. Even the authors I'm a big fan of and want to read everything they've ever written, I usually just put their paperbacks on my wishlist and wait for someone else to buy it for me. But if they don't have paperbacks, only paid Kindle books - which is quite common these days - that means I won't read anything else they've written, thus they won't get any money from me.
