I'm sure she'll grasp that soon, she sounds like a smart kid after all :)
I don't know what School House Rock is, but I'm assuming some kind of educational children's tv programme?

Yeah, I meant her memorizing them.
Honestly the sooner the better. I remember when I was young there was a kid that was so good in all the subjects because his parents worked hard with him to help him learn.
Gotta get em while their brain is squishy. Building up the blocks for higher learning.

ahhh, I remember having SO MUCH TROUBLE memorizing the multiplication tables! Partly just because it never made sense to me that I had to memorize them ("Can't I just calculate it? I don't see why I can't just calculate it!").
But eventually it was very useful.

Does your daughter's school do "Factor Families"? That was another one that took me a bit to get, but which was very useful.
I can't find it on Google (keeps telling me about "fact families", which is not the same).
It's that bit where you show cards like:

2+5=7
5+2=7
7-2=5
????

and you fill in the last one.
and once the kids get that, they show the card with just two of them listed, and you fill in the last two.

Then you fill in the other three when they show you one.

They did it for addition and subtraction as well as multiplication and division, and for some reason once I understood that stuff, the multiplication table memorization was easier. Oddest thing; they aren't really that similar, and yet getting one helped me get the other. Weird memory to crop up.

Anyhow. Hi, everyone. Seems like people talk more here than in the charity threads, lately?

I think the hangout section is generally more popular than the charity forums, but you see the same people anyhow :P

light - I don't like swimming xD I don't know why though. Maybe because I was not familiar with it until it was very late. My parents did not really see the point in training me there. I can swim, I learned it early enough and got the first of 4 (I think?) "certificates". I like to swim in my free time, for a few minutes, but I am more the sunbathing person xD

I get bored easily as well. English was my favourite subject at school and I got bored super fast even though my class had the most demanding teacher.

I never memorized them. I still have issues with. Thank goodness that I have calculator on me at all times. lol. In my phone, I mean.

Hangouts are more popular. There are a couple of charities that have a good amount of chatting, but not a lot.

I feel like swimming lessons should be required at a young age. So many little kids die from drowning. It's so easily prevented.

Oh, I didn't get any official certificates or anything. I mostly taught myself. And I apparently teach everyone that I mate with how to do it. lol. I love swimming so much, I teach them all how to float and do basic swimming.

Oh lawd. I stay out of the sun. I burn so easily. And just the rays hurt after a little while, even if it doesn't burn right off. So weird.

My favorite classes were always the humanities ones. I liked English until they started going crazy with the writing styles bull crap. Ugh. Let me write like a normal person.

yeah, the hangout threads are overall always more popular than the charity threads, most of the time. certain individual charity threads might be particularly active tho. there were a bunch that were active the last time you were there, Akili, but they were the ones you were active in so i really feel like your activity was why others were also active in them- i mean, just go check. after you hiatused they've hardly been active :mcheh:

Oh no, do we have to be afraid that this thread might die now as well, now that Aki is here :o?

Hi Jill!

We have to do the first certificate in elementary school, so it is already taken care of here :)
I taught my cousin how to swim when we were 8. :)

I loooove summer & the sun, I don't mind being in the sun for a few hours. It's sometimes very hard to read or something, so I love to be there with friends, so it won't get boring.

I agree on that bit about English classes. I liked Biology and Psychology as well. I was not into humanities at school, but I studied something like that at university, so I guess it all depends on the content and teaching style.
