I'm super frustrated and thinking of quitting art as a profession. Seriously thinking of dedicating myself to crochet over art at least. I've been able to sell some of my crochet dolls but atm can't get any commission work.
I'd try to get a normal job but don't have experience in anything and since I quit college (twice) Idk where I could get a job :(

Just putting a journal un on DA doesn't do much, you gotta work to get your self out there as much as you can to get commissions. That means spamming DA groups and Showing your art off places. you can post in the DA forums that you are looking for work. I just recently found that Toy House has a market place on their forms. If I get caught up on stuff I might give that place a try. If you need an invite code there are ways to find them.

I know how it feels. I also suck at job interviews, but I turned into commissions as a full job. It's not easy and I don't make as much as I should. But it's something you gotta work hard to make it work. People don't just come to you.

Yeah I have a toyhouse, but only got one commission out of there. The market place is a section on the forums where you can bump your thread like at gaia (Gaia is where I make most of my money o_o; Got a few through Flight Rising too, though I personally lost interest in the site)

I recently made a facebook page, dunno how that will go but people say instagram is a much better place for artists and I've even tried promoting posts there. Gained very few followers, though I only invested like, 5 dollars cause it can get expensive.

So dA groups are still active? I found one active commission group to join but they haven't accepted my submission yet.

I think advertising is the hardest part really. I'm also part of that website "artists & clients", but the fees there made my prices substantially higher. I did get a few commissions there so it did work for a while, but there's no way to advertise on the site, so you just wait for people to search through the tags you use. Got scammed there once though >< the person just will not pay me though I almost finished their piece .-. After that I got smart and ONLY start something after I get paid, and no showing wips without huge ugly watermarks.

I'm having a sale right now but it's not doing much. I got a chibi commission through subeta at the moment, though you can't bump your topic there so if people don't post on it you're screwed.

D: An artist I follow charges 120 USD for a bust commission. A bust commission. ;-;

Ahh by the way do you get a lot of people watching your streams KC? I mostly get 1 or 0 viewers lmao even when I share on IG and twitter that I'm streaming.
I think some things just aren't meant to be popular.

I did get a few commissions on Gaia. I was going through the request threads and posting my DA journal at anything that was tagged RLC. I feel like I could have done better if I had a better anime style. I think you would be good at that.

you should try Twitter. People moved over there from Tumblr when they banned all NSFW. I've never had luck on either of those sites but they seem to work well for others. I think it's hit or miss.

For DA groups, you really need to join more than a few, like a LOT of them. Like, try to dump your art into 5 to 10 groups at least. Some groups die over time. So I just leave them if I find they are dead.
Treat groups like tags, what is your art? Anime, males, shojo, cute (just as examples)
Best way to find active groups is to search for new popular art similar to yours and joining groups that art is submitted to.

I don't really do sites that take money from the artists. I know they need to keep the site active. It's just I don't want to upcharge commissioners.

I just started, so so far I have 0 to 3 viewers normally. I've maxed out at 5.
I'm doing them on Youtube because It just felt right for me.

Just keep posting art as constantly as you can. I know some artist don't like it, but drawing fan art can get you attention too.

Hello y'all!! Just popping in quickly for a question:
KC, you stream on YouTube, right? If I follow your account there, will I get a message or something when you start your stream? Or how does that work?

When you follow me on Youtube, streams will show up on your subscriptions page. Maybe on the Home page too. If you hit the bell button on my page, it will alert you in your notifications. I think you can set that up to have notifications sent to e-mail. If you are logged into Youtube app on your phone, it will send you alert messages of your youtube notifications. I hope that makes sense. XD
Also, I should add, when you hit the bell it also tells you when I post any videos too.
I don't know if it will send you messages of Discussions I post on my page. Please let me know if you see those. It would be nice to know if I'm wasting my time there. XD

I don't like twitter cause of all the political and toxic stuff (like tumblr) but I am there lol.

For streaming I had been using Restream, to stream to twitch, picarto and youtube at the same time o.o I used to also stream to a site called Watch Me Work, where you can stream with up to 3 other people... it can be less lonely than streaming to 0 viewers orz, but after months of streaming there I missed a few dates and was taken off the site calendar (it happens automatically if you miss your stream dates), and I haven't gone back.

I rarely am into the stuff that is most popular, but I'm thinking of drawing (can't believe I'm saying this as I think it's overdone) a couple of disney princesses that I like. And I should definitely watch a bit of anime again xD it's been so long...
