@Moi:
That's true. I know some people can be deeply saddened by their pets dying and hesitate to get another per afterwards but that's really just how life goes really.
Everything is usually a matter of practice tbh. But I'm also guilty about shying away from difficult things (like composition, BG, perspective ahhhh)
I don't think it's immoral to provide your client something you don't personally love. However, it is immoral to send something that's significantly subpar compared to the samples you've posted.
When I first started commission work, I bailed out and refunded my first clients because I couldn't get over that hurdle and just put so much pressure on myself. In the end, both parties weren't satisfied. I think that by providing the artwork, at least the commissioner's side is happy.
I also allow the client to ask for a specific number of edits and constantly send wips and ask for feedback so that if there's something they don't like, they can tell me.
Cause the reality is that while we may not really like the stuff we draw as much, it may differ from how other people feel.
It's not an easy mindset for everyone though. I've talked about this with a couple of artist friends in the past and the opinions vary regarding this issue. Personally, I just really can't afford to put so much pressure on myself since I won't have a means to earn income if I can't deal with this.
@Limikkin:
I like the spider theme of that design. Is the fluff on her hips actually spider webs clumped together or is it fur?
@MoodyBats:
I quite like the fashion of the girl on the rightmost. I think it would be okay with flats too but you may need to put an overlay or something on top of it to make the colors more errr cohesive (not sure if the term makes sense but I can't think of a more apt term)
---
I've finished a painting on my side of my trade with a friend (since I finally have time to draw something personal-ish). Too bad that I wasn't able to join a recent art contest too. But I'll probably still draw something for my favorite Chinese BL novel.
