I stopped being a child at 15-16 when mom's physical health started going down hill and I had to take care of her. Left school early to go to her dr appointments, even skipped school if she had some in the morning. Got to the point of me trying out home schooling (my attention span failed there).
I eventually gave up and got my GED.
Mom's mental health started to fail 5ish years ago so now I'm taking care of a 65 year old with a 5 year old mentality. Though she does have rare days of clarity.
When she throws her hissy fits and someone calls her childish, she says "I never got to be a child when I was little so I'll be one now" ... =x= the most annoying excuse ever..

I... have used that excuse sometimes when people ask me why I play with dolls in public.
But that's the only time I've ever used it.
Really, though I have them for a lot of reasons. Including some that help deal with PTSD that I've had since I was little bitty, apparently. I hear you on the having to take care of peeps. I was responsible for younger sibs since three or four. Seven and I had them on my back on hikes sometimes when Mom didn't come along or at work on the farm when she had to take them off for a bit. By my teens I was carrying a doll in my hand or pocket because I didn't feel settled unless I had a kid to keep an eye on.

I feel like I'm never going to feel an adult until I'm independent of my family, or at least don't have to answer to them for every trivial thing like what I wear or where I go.

Mom using the excuse to get away with her throwing tantrums isn't a good thing. Her tantrums are mostly about "they don't put me first! I should be the only one that matters, not their other customers"
The other day when I called for our taxi to go home, the boss man was all "Please understand it may take a while, we're really busy" .. he knew mom would be throwing hissyfits and calling constantly if it was more than a 20 minute wait x-x
I told him I'd do my best to keep her at bay. It made him laugh and he thanked me for understanding.
I had my old BLU phone with Solitaire on it to keep mom occupied >:3

I've only recently stopped having dreams about my parents coming and trying to order me around. A dream about them and my siblings as kids living in my apartment and hogging my computer still happens.

oh my god. i can relate. i still remember when we had just the one family desktop. trying times.
i've been away from home, in a student hostel, for a while. but my health mandates that i go back home for a while. i weighed my decision a lot and i think i definitely need to become healthier to be able to live in hostel again, or move on with my life in general. but i don't know whether home might not make me worse in some other ways. it's stressful in a way that adulting isn't. it's like i'm fighting for my own personhood all the time
it's exhausting.

Story:

For the past 4 days, this guild (F1NL) has been attacking the guild I'm in, (vibe). None stop, just attacking all our little empires. F1NL has this rule of 'No Tile Hitting' which is no attacking a resource tile that someone's occupied.
Two days ago, someone attacked my guildmate's Resource Tile. Instead of letting them kill off his troops, Ben (my guildmate who's empire is next to mine) had his troops return back to his empire and he bubbled (put up a barrier)
The F1NL guild said that it didn't count as tile hitting because Ben had left the tile and had his troops return home. They then turned their attention to me, but I bubbled in time.
Pissed off that these higher level brats were picking on lower level players. Bullying us to be exact. Their reason is because we won't play the game the way THEY want us to play. That is why we're being attacked. So yea, I am pissed. Attack me, I start plotting revenge.. but these jerks are way higher level than I am.
Then it hit me.. the way they were claiming they didn't "Tile Hit" Ben because he moved. They defended that they didn't break their own rule. Today my plan went into action.
F1NL member Odin had attacked Ben and I. I bubbled and sent my troops to a Resource tile. Odin had his troops follow mine to that tile. His empire was closer to the tile than mine was, but my soldiers were in the lead proving he sent his troops AFTER mine had started their march.
My men get to the Resource Tile, Odin didn't call his troops back. He attacked my occupied tile, breaking his guild's rule. TARNISHING THEIR GUILD'S NAME! Ben called them out on their rule breaking in the world chat. Odin teleported his empire away from ours.
