Trying to arrange for a visit with my sister.

Train travel... I recommend it a lot over long-distance bus travel. But it's not a magic carriage ride; I've met people on the train and I think they were expecting the Hogwarts Express or something because they were super bitter and disappointed about stuff that I looked at and went, "Um, how did you THINK that would work? Limited funds, limited by physics, what are the alternatives?" So probably setting expectations correctly is key to enjoying it.
I guess that's true of everything!

Do you want to ride or train, or is it one of those, 'huh, sounds vaguely interesting but not enough to make any push to do' sorts of notions?

I've only ridden in a car for long distance travel. Never been on a plane. Hubs says next time we go somewhere we gonna fly.

People are so silly.

I'd like to ride a train at some point but I'm not in any huge rush.

I literally cannot imagine someone never having ridden on a train before o:

it is so normalized here, same with busses.
I've had people say they never learned how to ride a bike before and it left me shook c':

Yes, the transportation options are really varied depending on where you are...
So many places in the US, you simply MUST become an auto-driver/owner, and their is no practical alternative. Then you talk to people who grew up in one of the larger cities in the EU and a lot of them never bother to learn how to drive a car, because why would they need to?
So it just depends upon where you're at.....

I just noticed. Lord Wuffel is tap-dancing next to a large bag in the corner of my screen.
He looks pretty excited about it.
Ha!

I've ridden on what we call the 'skytrain' which is basically above ground subways esentially. But not an actual "choo choo train". LoL I would love to go on a real one though. :qh: :mcglee: And yeah, it would be awesome if it was like the Hogwarts Express but I do not expect that.

We have a cool train tour here in Canada called the Rocky Mountaineer. I've always wanted to go but it's super expensive ... pretty pics here : https://www.rockymountaineer.com/

Oh, and I walked to my bus stop yesterday so I at least know where it is ... now I just have to figure out where to get off LoL :mcheh: :mcheh:

(I ended up with a bus ticket instead of train after all, since it was so much cheaper. Sigh. Buses are not as nice! And it was for further away in time than I'd hoped. But visits are visits, and visits are important.)

Europe and the US have way different ideas on infrastructure and trip-sizes, transportation etc indeed c':

I did enjoy driving in the US (as passenger) a lot lot more than in Europe!

You can ride the Hogwarts Express in Scotland/Ireland I think (the train they used and also runs through part of the scenery shown) or you can sit and walk in the prop they used to film inside the train in Leavesden England at the studios.

The Universal parks also have a Hogwarts Express you can ride in :P
