i wish i could be a mechanic but the pay seems shifty and it seems hard to get a job somewhere with it unless you had a shop.

Quite. Maybe people won't be as whiney about it.
I think Firn does a wonderful job with event items. I think it's perfectly understandable to make things a bit difficult to get sometimes since she puts so much work into the site.
