I like long hair, but I can't braid my own. 
If I braid to the side since I just can't seem to braid my own hair straight, so it drives me nuts if its on the side.

Yeah, it always ends up going to the side >.<
I've recently been really into twisting my hair, it's so simple and easier to keep straight. I find that French and Dutch braids keep relatively straight done by yourself too.

I love Dutch braids, but You need lots of hair to make them look good. On thin hair they don't look nice...

I learnt some from the internet, especially YT and some from my friends at hairdressers school.
