Yeah, that's the flan we eat here too!

It's not very hard to make, but because it requires a double boiler in the oven. Which for clumsy people is tricky, that's why I prefer making natillas.

That Cucuy/Cuco is probably what we call El Coco.
There is this typical lullaby which we all were sang as children: "Sleep my baby, sleep now, or else El Coco will come, and will eat youuuu".
Sing it with a mellow voice, of course! :mclaugh:

In my are we have a local boogeyman, based upon a true story - actually the first serial killer ever known in Spain (early XIX century) and we call it Sacamantecas (Tallow-taker).
Often refered to as El Hombre Del Saco (The Man of the Bag), which is common in more regions - because it's less specific, I guess, so there were probably assassins using a bag in many places.

Horchata is a cute nickname to give to someone 8u

I'm always willing to try new desserts. I don't think I can find natillas here u,8
We also have churros, sopapillas, dulce de leche, tres leches cake, conchas, buñuelos...

I don't think my dad was talking about any particular thing, he'd just be like "The Cucuy is going to get you \8U/" "There's a Cucuy out there \U8/"

That's really interesting. I'd like to learn more about this serial killer tale.
I'm trying to think if we have any local stories...
There was the witch's castle which was just rubble in the woods...
We have a goatman allegedly down at the park.

I hope they did not try to seduce you saying things like "horchata is sweet and so are you, babe" XDDDDD

Dulce de leche, ah, my mother-in-law loves it!
You can find it here, of course, but it's not a traditional thing. It's purely Latin American. (But she was born in Argentina.)

The wikipedia has a page in English about him:

That's your name? Well, I like the name I gave you more so that's your name now 8u

I've never actually had many Mexican desserts ._.
I LOVE churros so that's probably the only one I really eat.
I do like several dishes that aren't dessert.

There's one thing I really want to do and that's learn Spanish.
I know a little bit, but my parents raised me, speaking English so I never really had to learn Spanish.
I know when I was a kid, we ordered some magazines and they came in Spanish xD
I do have my dad's last name which is Mexican or apparently Basque according to the internet.
Sooo they assumed I only knew Spanish xD

Interestingly enough, I found out what my first and last name kind of mean together.
Ashley means a meadow of ash trees and my last name means cold mountain.

I'm going to read that 8u
I've never heard of this serial killer before.

@Moi:
You have a Basque surname? Oh, those often have a bold sound to them, but not very "Spanish".
May I ask what's your surname or is it too personal for a forum? (Please ignore my question if that's the case.)

Yeah, he's not worldwide known because he's a local case from two hundred years ago.
But became some sort of legend around here.
We do love our morbid legends :mclaugh:

@Hotarla:
I've never really had a nickname, but being told to be a tiger nut drink seems like as good a choice as you can find :D

Not to mention it's a sweet treat u8

It's Mendoza 8u
I looked it up and it said it was Basque.

Serial killers themselves love to become legends 8u
That's why people often don't want them called like "The Night Stalker" and "The Golden State Killer" because it boosts their egos and confidence.
Because they're terrible people 8u
