Yes, it's a Basque one, but the kind of surname that was Spaniarized (which is a word I've just made up xD).
Those do sound perfectly normal to any of us outside the Basque country.

There are other Basque surnames - the ones which keep the original sounds - which for me sound like a puzzle :mclaugh:

Yeah, well, this was long before newspaper existed :mclaugh:
I don't think he wanted any popularity.
He was just a madman who thought he was a lycanthrope.

I don't think people like being called salty xD

I didn't even know what Basque was.
I'd never even heard of it ._.
It's interesting learning new stuff, though 8u

I haven't read about him yet, but I do know there's a rare mental disorder where people think they're turning into a werewolf. I don't remember the term for it, but it's led to people killing others ._.
I heard about it recently because this kid kept telling people he was turning into an animal and people just ignored him until he killed and partially are two people.

No I don’t think they do lol. But I like salty foods more I guess. Although both sweets and salty foods should be eaten in moderation. XD

So being called is not nice? Funny. Here being "salado" is quite a good thing to say about anyone.

There is a Basque Country here in Spain. Despite not being large, there are several different countries in Spain with their own languages (although we all speak Spanish of course).
I have two languages: Galician and Spanish.

Anyway all those languages have roots in Latin, so they are kinda related. (Same as Portuguese, French, Italian, etc.)
But Basque is a completely different language, not related to Latin, and nobody really knows where it originated. Therefore both its grammar and vocabulary are strange for Spanish-speaking people.

That's why many names and surnames evolved (after centuries) to a more Spanish-y pronunciation.

Apparently its Basque original version would be Mendi-Hotza.

@Hotarla:
Koakas!
Those are too cute to be eaten :mclove:

Those remind me of the Hello Pandas 8888u
I want some of those now...
My period hit me hard and I have no chocolate >Bu

People don't like being called salty because:
Salty is a slang term for irritated, angry, or resentful, especially as a result of losing or being slighted.

That's really interesting. Man, I love languages and wish I could learn as many as possible...I've always wanted to learn Spanish, German, Japanese, French, Chinese, Korean...
I wish I knew Latin too xD
I learned a small bit because of a song we sang for choir.
