I've just been digging with mine too.
And I was so happy they dug up an item... But apparently all they ever find are fishes
I guess they like them

I wish my knuffels would dig up more food than materials lol.

Maybe you are digging in the wrong elements?

You are supposed to dig in their "best" element for materials and items, but in another one for food.
That's why I never get food from them but I have a ton of materials.

I dunno? Sometimes I don’t pick the element they’re a part of because you get more experience digging in another element and they would level up faster. I do have some knuffels that are maxed out in their own element so I guess I should make a comparison lol.

No, I don't mean the element you choose when you level them up. I mean where they choose to dig.
The higher an element statistics the higher the chance of finding materials/items there.
When a knuffel does not find materials, there is a chance for food.

If it has 100 darkness (even if the knuffel is air) then when digging in darkness you'll have a 100% chance of finding materials - 0% chance of food.
If it has 10 in darkness 90% of the time you won't find materials - and there is a chance of finding food.

I think that's the way it worked.
