Moi: I had an ex boyfriend who tried to do stuff the myth busters did... nearly cut his arm of with a chainsaw... nearly blew himself up several times... yea.. >->, He never learned...
Mynah: The light novel. It's not a show.. YET! *A* (then again the last LN I wanted to get an anime, they butchered it... =A=)
In our world, it depends on the 'type' of slave.
Now I used 'type' of slave there for a reason. BDSM and Slave&Master play are a thing. It's a sex thing with a CRAP ton of rules. There are willing sex slaves and they know that if the master hurts them, they can complain about it. If the master continues to go too far, the slave can leave and search for another master. If the master is an absolute psycho, the slave can call the cops.
Though of course, when it comes to the word slave, people automatically jump to human trafficking. Those slaves, aren't allowed to say no. They aren't allowed to leave and find a new master. These are the slaves everyone see's when the word slave is brought up. They don't see people with rights, they see people who are whipped and abused.
In Campfire Cooking though, slaves have rights. When slaves are being bought, contracts are worked out and if the slave says they are alright with 'those services' to be added to the contract then, the owner can ask for those services. If sex isn't included in the contract they cannot ask for it. And if a master breaks that contract, he can get arrested. Slaves can decline to do something and not get into trouble for it, unless it breaks the contract. Then again, the point of him asking was to show that if a person would allow such thing as a slave, she wouldn't be a slave at all, they would have just gone to work in a brothel before the debt got bad.
Last time I checked, asking for consent wasn't rape. Labeling someone a rapist because they asked a question is wrong. And that's what they did. They labeled him a rapist for asking if there were girls who'd agree to have relations with him. They dropped the series because he asked for a slave's consent to have sex. They ignored the fact that slaves have rights in this series and can say no to such a question. They ignored the fact that he could get arrested if he didn't listen to the word 'no' as well.
He had intention if it was allowed. And technically it IS allowed, but ONLY if the slave consents. But as I said, those types of girls never end up as slaves in the first place, they end up in the brothels instead.
CONSENT is the difference between sex and rape. Consent was asked, declined and that was that.
