I watched the cartoon when I was a kid and loved it, but didn't know it also had comics back then. They weren't sold here in Belgium c':
So I sort of lost track of it when the cartoon ended and stopped airing here, until I saw the boxset with all seasons of the first cartoon at a convention and got hooked on that again. That was about 7 years ago o;
Once I bingewatched and enjoyed the nostalgia I wanted to check out the current fandom, checked tumblr and twitter etc and 'ho lord its still alive and strong aww' - 'wait what it has comics??? Fanart aplenty and FANFICTION and man those figures are so pretty!!'
thus le Doki was hooked and really the fandom is one of the best I've ever been in, so no regrets c;

It's funny how the fandom community can be such a factor that way.
I'm not actually a fan of the middle ages or the renaissance (far too in love with human rights and sanitation and lack of religious rule) but I love hanging out with fans. Renaissance fairs and festivals are just so much fun! And the SCA groups that I have met were all wonderful people.

That really is true, being able to share your fandom with others and have it being fun and wholesome can do so so much in how you experience the actual fandom source o;
The first time I went to TFN, a specific Transformers convention I was awestruck by how chill everyone was. Literally everyone chats with everyone, people were posing their figurines on tables together and the literal creators/writers/artists of the official comics were chilling at the bar with fans like they were friends like wow that esp confounded me c':
everyone was so nice and friendly that weekend, I'd go back just for that atmosphere. You couldn't walk through a hallway without people giving you a compliment or striking up a convo about your shirt or such it was amazing

That does sound like a really great community! :)
Haha, I wouldn't want to live in the actual middle ages either, but playing at the slightly fantastical version we build ren faires around is a ton of fun! :)

I wonder what renaissance-era transformers would be like?
Sailing ships that turn into covered merchant caravans? How would it work?

They would need to be some sort of machinery in the alt-mode (what its called, the form other than their base robot form), since they are made out of metal and engines etc c;

Hm, not much of metal engine stuff back then! A few foundries, but mass-scale casting isn't really machinery, is it? You'd need renaissance for sure rather than medieval.
Truly always metal? They couldn't be clockwork -style, with wooden parts?

Nope, they're made of 'sentient metal', not wood :P

Yeah, the dressing up for it part is what makes me go to ren faires as well (or rather medieval faires, that's what you usually have here). :)
I need to justify buying the clothes by going to events where I can wear the clothes! And then buy more clothes...
