Well, he changed the beginning a little already a long time ago, but I personally like seeing the progression of his style. The improvement is gradual so I was shocked when I went back to the beginning. It really looks so different.

It's too bad, but I have to go to sleep. I got caught up rereading a comic and I forgot about the time. XD;

Aw. That must have been annoying. Waiting for three hours for something to download... only to find that it hadn't even begun to download. I've been experiencing that today, myself.

I wonder what this week's semi-topic will be? Maybe about Rps?

@Nuke: You're always free to suggest one, but I generally go off a list. The Mary Sue one was suggested by Alice, I believe. If you want to talk about RPs, I can write it down, but what aspect of RPing would you like to talk about.

I just woke up about an hour ago after going out with the family. XD I forgot that my uncle dislikes watermelon (funny story) and offered him some watermelon sorbet. It was good though. :X

Alright, new things have been added, including some personal recommendations in the links and the usual semi-weekly topic and writing meme updates. :)

.. . Hallo!
The new topic sounds great, I really like flaws in my OCs. Mostly because you can't really say if it's really a flaw or a merit.

.. . For example, Kifrad (Jasem's husband) has a trait called suspicious. Is it good or bad to be suspicious? Not that he is paranoid, so it is good not to believe everyone and everything. But he can act really offensive too, so it's probably bad.
The same is with his other trait: persistence. It doesn't seem to be of any harm if the person is not afraid to reach what he wants and can follow his way without hesitation and fear. But growing obstinate he becomes a hard person to deal with. Especially when he's 100% sure that he is right. And he's almost ever sure. It's not single persistence that makes him difficult to socialize with - it's his confidence + persistence.

.. . An example of how different traits, leading or not, work together. If he wasn't confident his obstinacy would not work this way. As well as if he wasn't persistent his confidence could form a completely different person.

edit: sorry, I've been writing this for neary an hour so I saw only the topic update.

Aha, that's fine; there are actually a lot of questions in regards to character flaws. I have quite an interest in them, though as I've discovered in my RPing experience, having too many flaws can sometimes be as bad as having none. In any case, I think it's more interesting to think about a character's defects than redeeming qualities.

To respond to the flaw/merit section of your conversation, that was what I meant by the aspect and depth of a flaw; that is the extent of the flaw in comparison to other flaws or as a balance to the more attractive qualities. Ocean and I have had quite a conversation about this a while ago --she's pretty insane (in an awesome way) and keeps lists of traits with varying degrees of positive and negative connotations.

According to the list, being suspicious falls into the category of "generally negative descriptors, but not aspects that make you want to keep your distance," while being persistent is listed as a positive trait, though I can see how too much of any positive trait can turn against a character.

What I was talking about for the topic, however, is more of the character's perspective on these flaws, rather than the writer's. Does he recognize his own flaws? Do they hinder him in any way? What do other characters think about these flaws? Does he have flaws that are absolutely negative?

I remember jotting down a few flaws for Faris, but I can't quite recall where I've put that bit of paper. XD; Man, I hope I actually wrote it down as opposed to thinking about it while trying to get some sleep and ending up forgetting about it all <--something that happens all the time. I've nearly poked my eye out while trying to scrabble around in the dark for note paper before. XD;

I'll PM Ocean asking her if I can share the list of traits (as I find it very useful and look at it regularly), meanwhile, I've found this equally interesting list of flaws: [Yay for Google!]
