Ooh, nice. My mom doesn't work Thursday.

LOL. Dude, that was priceless. I like how even though he can be pretty stupid, he's honest, goodhearted, and badass without being full of himself [this last bit is mainly why I like him]. Also, Oda [the creator] made Luffy's power rubber because he wanted something sorta silly and different. Pretty creative, I'd say.

Ah, I kinda wish they kept her more badass --I feel like with her powers, she'd be up among the Strawhat's monster trio [Luffy, Zoro, Sanji], but I guess they didn't want to make her too OP.

If you've seen the Zombie episodes [the docking system... omg...], then you've met Ace. He's Luffy's brother. Law isn't too new, but he's new enough when compared to most characters, I think.

I have a weekly appointment on Thursday evening so I asked not to get scheduled for closing shifts, and somehow that just made them not schedule me at all lol

Hahah very true. XD And I haven't actually gotten to that arc yet, my friend just showed me the page. And I stumbled across a gif of it, too. xD
But yeah I really like Luffy. I like a lot of shounen protagonists actually.

Wow... Do the managers not like you, or do they just not have those hours?

Ah, I see. My brother likes the zombie arc a lot, but it wasn't one that I likes [it's funny but we both like different arcs]. My favorite is "Sabaody Archipelago" which is a bit after the zombie one.

I'm indifferent about most protagonists, I think; it really depends for me. Well, I did like Gon a lot in Hunter though --right up until the Chimera Ant arc. Killua was cool too --I like how their friendship was based on loyalty, trust, and honesty, rather than the sort of rivalry relationship that too often happens with the secondary character is the "cool" one.

Um, wow it's nothing like that ^^; but I can only get scheduled 40 hours a week without going overtime, so I usually have Tuesday and Thursday off (appointment days).. and work all the other days. I only get scheduled on those two if there's nobody else who can or it's a tight week when we're down a couple people. xD
There's more people that can do day shifts than night shifts, too.

Ahh, I see. o;

What made you stop liking Gon? I like Killua quite a bit, and I enjoyed their relationship too. Cuties.
I sometimes have trouble getting into a shounen manga if I don't care for the protagonist though. XD Part of my trouble with Ace of the Diamond. Eijun kinda annoys the crap out of me 75% of the time. XD He's getting better but.. (whereas I adore Hinata and Onoda)

Ooh, I see. Yeah, I get that.

I don't want to spoil it for you, but I can if you want me to. [I can put it under a cut.]

Spoiler
In the Chimera Ant arc, Gon said something really mean to Killua. Gon's friend, Kaito, was killed by a Chimera Ant, and it made Gon really bitter. When Killua tried to stop him or calm him down Gon told him that it was none of his business [even though Kaito had also saved Killua] and something along the lines of how it must be so easy for Killua not to care. Killua, however, really cared about Gon, to the point that he even overcame some of his own fears and hardships in this particular arc; he had really shown his love and loyalty to Gon, even though Gon didn't see it. Gon's words really cut him.

I was so angry at Gon when I read it because I had thought better of him. The early Gon that I knew didn't think the way other people did --he wasn't prejudiced between good and evil, moral and immoral, but was able to speak to people like Tompa, Hisoka, and that sumo guy during the Hunter test even while knowing their nature. I really liked him for that and thought he was a unique and interesting character because of it. It was really disappointing.

The Chimera Ant arc was one of my favorites regardless, though; the story about the main antagonist was really interesting, and I liked seeing Killua's inner growth. I also liked the arc with the auction.

Yeah, I know what you mean; it's important to like the protagonist [or at least be able to put up with him], and I find it difficult to continue a series where I like no characters at all.

Aha, I got lucky with Oofuri --even though my favorite is Hanai, I pretty much like everyone on the team. Higuchi [mangaka] did a really good job with that --sometimes she'll write about minor characters in omake comics, and during her hiatus one summer, she wrote short comics [like a handful of pages] about minor characters. It's not always about the team, but sometimes it's about their families too. XD I feel like it's the sort of series where you end up liking almost all the characters. You really feel connected with them, and each one has their own way of thinking and their own unique quirks.

What I also like is that everyone has different relationships with everyone else --it's not just all about the main character. Also, because everyone thinks so differently, there're sometimes misunderstandings and different team members are more sensitive about that [in good and bad ways] than others. Everyone's well-rounded, with strengths and flaws, and the likable characters [the popular ones] are really likable for legit reasons [like charisma that shows in their speech and actions, or their skills and the way they don't get too arrogant about it] and not just because the author says so or uses filler characters [like background characters who are admirers] for it.

I also like the way they treat women in this manga, even though they aren't main characters [it's an all-boys team, and that's how it is realistically, so that's understandable]; they don't objectify women. The coach has a large chest admittedly, but she doesn't wear skimpy outfits or anything; she wears practical clothes. And the girls are sometimes feminine, but the femininity isn't absurdly played upon [like, "Oh, I'm so cute!" or "I love shopping!"] and the girls are just as competent as the boys are, just in their own ways.

...I really like Oofuri. XD;

It's entirely possible, although I hear that things might slow down after the event.
