Weird. I remember one of my cats doing that years ago. But I think they were sick. So I have no idea what to tell you because I don't want to worry you.

I know some cats don't like the feel of the type of litter used so they'll go elsewhere.
Cat's with arthritis tend to prefer more smooth sand-like litter over the clay like ones that have bigger grains. Some need to have wood chips over sand/clay litter. Pine chips for hamsters and guinea pigs are best for odor absorption. My aunt's cat Peaches needed wood chips when she got old.


Some prefer scent-less, some cats like the scented ones. Some will refuse to use a litter box until its washed out as the scratches cause grooves in the litter pan plastic where smells stick to.

Then like DC said, there could be a medical problem.

Cats can be quite picky and there can be many reasons why some refuse to use the litterbox.

At least they're going someplace other than the floor or under furniture.

I have made some more cute baby dolls. I made a baby flying eyeball for a friend, and a customer at the market asked me to make her a baby beholder (so I gave it a binky, too).
