I'm pretty sure that Claudius' front door opens with a key, but his house seems to have a sort of soul or personality of its own. I'm not saying that it's a conscious being by any means, and in truth, I have a little trouble figuring this one out, but basically because it accepts Claudius as its owner, he's allowed to live there and ultimately decides who stays or goes. He's also the one who's allowed to use the magic of the tower. A similar comparison would be like an enchanted sword that's bound to one owner so that others aren't allowed to wield it --if its owner should perish, the magic would lock itself away until a worthy owner claims it. This was exactly the case with Claudius --there're some secrets and history to this house yet, but they're to be revealed.

As for the charcoal and chalk, unlike a normal house where rooms are generally accessed by walking across one room to another, the tower also has rooms stacked upon rooms, but no internal doorway between floors. Doorways need to be drawn with either chalk or charcoal --one being used to access a higher floor, the other for a lower floor. They also need to be drawn in certain ways, otherwise the doors won't open, and unless you know the symbols for certain floors, you may not be able to access them at all. It's all very complicated.

I know a lot of June babies, including myself. One of my online friends has her birthday this month, then there are five RL friends, and two family members that I can recall.

Claudius' tower was one of the most detailed homes I've created for my characters, the next one being Terry's house (I wrote up a list of specific furniture and even what sort of food is generally in the fridge for that one), and then Jake's (I searched for images on the house's exterior and drew up a blueprint of the interior.)

It all depends on what I need it for, really; I was on a Howl's Moving Castle high when I created Claudius, so I wanted a story about a wizard and his house too, except I didn't want anything too similar to Howl's house. If anything, it closely resembles "The House of Many Ways" but only in the fact that there are multiple room and secret rooms and rooms between worlds, etc. The whole chalk and charcoal and multiple floors bit was slowly pieced together while constructing the place. Originally it was supposed to be a house and not a tower, but I caught a remarkable image of a tower house and knew that that was what it had to be.

For Terry, his house was formed via RP and RP-related convos, which is why there are certain "souvenirs" left over from past RPs in his house, like the foosball table that is often temporarily converted to a dining table through the magic of cardboard, and the beanbag chair (one of the few decent chairs in the house), and the second Wii, and Terry's favorite life-sized poster of Robin (Tim not Dick, it needs to be said) --this one being a replacement of his old one due to a jealous boyfriend who glued a cut-out photo of his head in place of Robin's face. XD;

Lastly, Jake's house needed to be drawn because he's detail-oriented and demanding like that; also because it was necessary for a part of one of his RPs.

Aha, I mostly thought of Super Mario Bros. because I'm old school like that. Legend of Zelda too; I've never played the ones you've mentioned.

Claudius isn't living in any sort of creepy tower like those though; I don't think he'd find it practical at all to make a home in such places. His tower is actually enchanted wood --it's like living in a tree almost, except that it's actually whole levels of boards of wood that has shrubbery growing out of it, not one big trunk with branches and such. Inside it's generally very snug and has a homey feel to it --at least I've always imagined so.

The room with the most luxury seems to be Claudius' bedroom, with piles and mounds of pillows and cushions on his bed, just as he likes it. >>b Most of the other rooms are much more practical and mildly decorative. Er, except Faris' room, which of course, changes with the mood of said houseguest.
