No, more like...

You know how there are authors who post their novels online, in installments, and then later edit it further and collect it up for sale as a normal book?

Similarly there are artists who post their comics online, usually in small installments (sometimes a small strip a week, sometimes a page or two a week, sometimes a small strip a day, sometimes a chapter a month, it varies). Then later they edit it further, collect it up, and sell it as a normal comic book/graphic novel.
Usually through small indy publishers rather than the big name brands.

Sometimes they never put out a dead-tree version, and it is only available online.

Er, mostly it's not a download? Mostly it's just online, like you go to the website of the comic and read it there?

Although I guess they have those "RSS feed" things, I'm not actually positive what those even are but I hear the term a lot.

They are almost always free to read. They survive off of donations, mostly, or patreon, pantreon, something like that. I'm a little unclear, really.

(I'm still actually rather new to the internet, despite my age. For these things, I generally wait until they collect it into a book and buy that, but then one of my sisters taught me how to follow one of the comics online, and then that comic artist ran 'vacation week guest strips' between story arcs, and I started looking up the guest artists, and so I've explored a little bit now to learn a little more.
So I might be getting this all wrong)
