Yes, it can be difficult to judge these things if you haven't had to deal with it yourself. >.<

I hope you are doing some research, though, so that you don't run into trouble later when suddenly the world expects you to magically become all knowledgeable when you hit an arbitrary birthday.
I never really understood that, to be honest.
Oh, I know. School and parents and such are supposed to prepare you; but there's not exactly a lot of practice, for instance, filling out tax forms in schools and I suspect most parents are of the "we'll teach them when the occasion arises" zeitgeist. Which means the percentage taken out comes as a nasty surprise to most young adults during their first jobs, and it's also tough for them to know exactly how much they need to chuck into savings, not for some mythical retirement which is still decades off but for more immediate things like, how much does it actually cost you each month for personal toiletries and household supplies? And what about the odd larger amount suddenly required (people tell new homeowners to budget for roof replacement, but how often are they warned about large appliance replacement or heater/furnace/septic tank/etc?)? And then everyone moans and comments about how "young people today are so unprepared!"
Well, if no one is going to prepare them, of COURSE! And it's no reflection on them....


Sorry, I'll get off the soapbox now. >.< It's just I had to listen to this twenty-minute rant by one of my cousins recently (first cousin twice removed; my grandparents' generation). I really wanted to respond, but I knew that would just encourage him.
