It was a turtle which I drew myself, adapting a tribal style one. I would have to upload it from my phone I guess... and we know how bad I am at doing that, so you probably won't see it, let's be honest XD
Now what I want is a pirate ship, a galleon, with soft watercolour style waves around the bottom. Then maybe somewhere incorporating the words "with hope prevailing". It's a reference to a song I used to love; it's not in my most player list anymore but I still like the lyric, so I think it's safe, and it harks back to pretty much the worst time I've had in my life (and hopefully ever will have). It will be (maybe if I ever get it lol) a reminder to myself that things get better, even when it seems hopeless. And I want it down the side of my body, around the area of the rib cage. I'll decide on how big when it comes to it, depending on how brave I am and how much it costs XD
The turtle held pretty much the same message, and it was a reference to something that happened as well. But the ship feels more like a piece of art, where the turtle was very simple.

I hope you find a good artist at watercolour tattoos. They're quite hard and I've heard of people having dropout issues with them.
I want a sailor moon inspired tattoo.. dunno what or where.

Hahaha, yeah, I know :D But the descriptions are already satisfying my curiosity, I think :)
That sounds like a really beautiful motif, and with that kind of meaning one would hope you'll continue liking it :)
River, do you already have tattoos? (Sorry if I missed it earlier in the conversation)

Right now I like watercolour, it looks so pretty, but as it is very popular at the moment I don't want to get one yet. I have an idea what I want though. If I stick with it.
Chrizine, I have a peace sign and a four-leaf clover.
They both have very different messages, also linked to past events. Similar to jacob, I want to remind myself of something with them.
In short, the peace sign is linked to being bullied at school and I want to remind myself that people are just humans and humans are never flawless so that I do not want to judge people on their actions in the past, it only matters how they are right now.
And the clover luck, belief, confidence, coincidence, power ... in a nutshell :D

I already found the artist I want to do it. She's based in Wales so we would have to do a short trip out there, would be a good excuse for a holiday anyway. I've seen her do watercolour style waves before - she did a compass motif for someone, which was really beautiful. So I've got it all planned, just not... planned XD
Having a message is definitely important for tattoos, I think. If there's nothing behind it, you'll want to change it eventually.

Yea I agree, it's no good having a tattoo without a meaning.. At least that's my opinion.

Julez, these sound like beautiful meanings, too :)
I definitely agree with you guys, if I'd ever get one it'd need to have a deep personal meaning to me, otherwise I think I'd be pretty likely to stop liking it at some point. Apart from not wanting to have any meaningless marks on my skin in the first place, that is ;)
jacob, sounds great that you already have an artist that you feel would be right for you :) And combining it with holidays sure sounds like a nice idea!

Most people I know with tattoos, a lot of them don't have 'meaning' it's just that they like the design of the tattoos.
