Husband is short so he usually asks for tailoring on his pants. I guess that's the most common option nowadays.
I would do it but denim is annoying ^^
Suits are a common thing as well, at least in Japan. Most of the stores that sells suits offer options or at least a wide range of custom sizing.
Wedding dresses are usually tailored too aren't they?
Even measuring yourself, can you trust the sizing reference in online stores?
Usually yes. Or at least in my experience. But it depends on the stores.
At worse you can usually return stuff. It's a pain but it's a possibility.
