I've lived in places with bad bread.
It's terrible how some people get used to it!

That's when I started baking it.
Now not so much.
I really like the spelt bread we buy in a little bakery here. It's so tasty!

Oooh, that does sound good!

What I miss is good rye bread. The kind that doesn't rely on added vinegar and isn't mostly wheat with some coffee coloring. The kind that actually is rye flour, and uses the natural sourdough flavorings, and caraway seeds are optional but if they're present they're fresh and not dusty....

according to my mom, all fried rice in restaurants are done using rice from the day before. because day old rice is better for making fried rice than freshly cooked rice. 8U

Day old rice is healthier for you, too, when it comes to glycemic index and what it does to your blood sugar levels.
I don't understand the chemistry behind it though. It's on my to-do list of things to investigate further.

Yup it is, fresh rice is too mushy to give a good texture when you fry it. (Or so I have heard.)
That and it was originally a way to use leftovers so it totally makes sense.

It's like French toast, you're supposed to use stale bread.

I always just make french toast by starting with toasting the bread, so you use toast and not bread.... I suppose you could do it as simply by using stale bread...

okay that's smart. Next time I have some stale bread maybe I'll make french toast instead of stuffing.

Wrong order, you're supposed to toast it (or rather fry it in a pan) after you put it in the milk/eggs mixture.

I also often make panko or crouton with old bread if I don't feel like eating something sweet.
(Though to be fair I almost never have old bread, when I get the motivation to go buy some it disappears in an instant. Good bread is hard to come by.)

Yeah that’s what I thought too. Fresh rice is too mushy to fry and it would probably just stick. Day old rice would be harder and easier to make into fried rice. And yeah, good way to get rid of leftovers lol. XD

Whenever i make French toast or whatever, i always dip the egg in before putting it in the pan…8U

Yes... you do that too..

1) toast the bread
2) in a bowl whisk eggs, milk, and nutmeg
3) pour egg mix into a shallow pan
4) put toast into egg mix until both sides are coated
5) fry the french toast in a pan with generous amounts of butter
6) serve with lemon curd and a sprinkling of vanilla sugar
