(Also on a tangent about movie sets having to change the original location. A lot of shows film in my uni, and one year this TV show about an alternate universe where the Axis Powers won WWII was filming on campus. So for like a week, this one square in the middle of the campus was adorned with nazi flags during the day )

I'm really really bad at English accents though. It always takes me a while to get used to it when watching British shows
(I also can't tell the difference between an English accent and an Australian accent... Sometimes I even confuse them with Southern accents...)

Yeah Youtube commercials have been getting ridiculous. On my computer I have an ad-blocker installed so it helps filter them out, but watching videos on my phone can get annoying @x@

OMG that's both a blessing and a curse. I always love it when I guess correctly the plot, but if it happens too much then the show isn't fun anymore eh

Are you not a native English speaker? I recently learned that people who learn a second+ language have a hard time hearing accents. That's so interesting to me.

And I literally just mistook a Cajun accent as a British accent at first. Then I heard them talk more and I was like, that's not British. lol.

Nope ^^ I was born in China so my native tongue is Mandarin. I came to Canada really young though!

It probably has to do with colonialism imo... Like many places were colonized by the British, their English accent must have their roots there?

OMG when I watched "Knives Out", I spent the whole time thinking the detective was British...

Yeah which is why i’ll probably never catch up to either superhero universe. XD;; for me, i like to watch things in order. I don’t mind the occasional spin off (like ShangChi) but i wouldn’t start a movie that’s right in the middle of MCU without watching the previous ones…8U i’m like that with anything though. Sometimes my parents would be watching something (could be a drama, an awards show, anything) and they’ll tell me to sit down and watch with me if i happen to be hovering. But i would always say no because i NEED to watch stuff from the very beginning and i hate starting something in the middle. XD;;

Yeah it really was. And they were able to get a laugh out of some parts. XD so ShangChi is good. Anything else? Not so much. XD;;

I'm also very good at that, and I'm always saying "oh, but it's obvious that this and that will happen" - even when it's supposed to be an unexpected twist.
And my husband can't undersand how I do it xD



And I don't recognize accents unless they are very very noticeable.
Anyway I watch most of my series with English subtitles, so if I miss one word here or there I can always pick it up.

It was a weird week LOL, but they had to cover up the signs as soon as they were done filming each day to minimize the weirdness XD

I think Toronto and Vancouver are the most common filming locations in Canada? I think Marvel's Eternals filmed a bit in Vancouver downtown because some streets were recognizable /o/

I wonder how ShangChi 2 will go.... Without Tony Leung my mom likely won't watch it XD

I used to despair when I watch heavily accented movies in theatres /D;;; I think I've gotten better at accents over the years, but I just remember watching a Harry Potter in theatres and it took half the movie before I got used to the accent enough to understand everything

Natsuyuki - That's cool. I am super duper white so I have no culture. We do got biscuits and gravy though, and that's delicious.

How many languages do you speak? I only know English. Though I know like the tiniest bit of a ton of other languages too. No grammar. I suck at conjugation. lol.

No problem. I think that some people assume British accent is just the posh sounding one, but there are many forms of British accent. And some of them sound a lot like some Australian accents. I don't know how many different Australian accents there are, I'm not as familiar with their dialect. But I have listened to a ton of British media so I know a lot of theirs. lol.

Oh yes, the colonizers. The sun never sets on the British empire. Makes me mad. So many lives ruined because asshole family wanted to be in charge of everyone. And so much culture lost! Or overwritten on purpose!

I don't watch a lot of mystery shows. I still enjoy going through the motions if the media is well done. Like there was this comic series that I immediately knew the outcome of like as soon as spouse explained the plot to me, but it was well written and the art was good so it didn't bother me.

I think because I'm used to it, it's not as bothersome. Also, I've learned not to blurt out the answer immediately because that does bother some people. lol.

A ton of movies and shows are at least partially filmed in Canada. I'm not sure why. Also Georgia, USA. I usually chat with spouse during credits so I always see filmed in Canada and Georgia on the screen.

Yeah, I'm the same way! I gotta watch all the movies in order.
Though since I was super into comics and cartoons as a kid I have been watching the shows since I was a kid.

If you just want to watch a few of the movies usually the numbered ones are okay by themselves and only briefly mention the other movies. So Iron Man 1, 2, and 3 can be watched separately without worrying about all of the Avengers and the plot getting super crazy.


Amura - I think for me the predicting ability is based on me consuming a ridiculous amount of media. And also autism.

I watch everything with English subtitles too. Because I'm hard of hearing. If I don't have subtitles on it sounds like someone is mumbling under water. lol.

Also! There are background noises that I have never heard until subtitles. It will say something like ominous groaning and before subtitles, I was always like why is the music suddenly scary? lol

yeah they're pretty popular filming destinations. that and i think its cheaper to film in canada than in the States. which is why they come here...8U
