I think they've all been unionized by now, SPEW has been official for a lil while now I think ;P

Eh, SPEW was full of flaws and Hermione's self-asserted views that she was the only right power in the world and ignored everyone else on the matter.
She based all her house elf assumptions on Winky and Dobby, who were two very different cases. She completely ignored the fact that forcibly freeing the house elves is not what they want, and in the case of Winky is the very thing that caused her distress.
Dobby was happier free because his family was abusive and mean, but he was still offered a certain amount of freedom while "enslaved" to try and warn Harry about shit going down. Same with Kreacher.
While I agree that it is kinda fucked up that a sentient race is held in enslavement, I don't agree with Hermione/SPEW's approach to elf rights and freedom.

Oh, that went somewhere unexpected. lmao

Hermione started SPEW as a teen, with a 'for justice!!' approach that imo was centered around the fact that she was a muggleborn, a teenager and uneducated as a result of the former two. I actually love how it was all handled in the books (and severely bummed that the movies had nada zilch of it all)

but I did mean by my previous post that, thanks to Hermione's SPEW phase as a teen, the elves probably have some pretty decent rights and protection now. And its totally my headcanon that the department name for all that is still SPEW and that Hermione founded it for realz after the war :P

Same with my other headcanon that Hermione started up several other departments like that for Werewolves, vampires and the like. All the bigots fearrrr herrrr

s'totally ok to disagree and let out your thoughts though, your opinion is valid c:
